This position offers a flexible schedule with preferred availability of at least two shifts per week (5 to 8 hour shifts), with schedules established two or more months in advance. There may also be opportunities for additional hours based on department needs and candidate availability. In this role, you will primarily work with patients with neurologic conditions including traumatic/acquired brain injury (TBI/ABI), stroke, POTS, and other complex diagnoses. Treatment focuses on promoting safety, cognitive function, independence, and participation in activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs). This position also offers opportunities to expand into specialty areas such as driving rehabilitation, complex DME/power mobility evaluations, and neuro-vision rehabilitation. The ideal candidate is collaborative, adaptable, and passionate about helping patients maximize independence and quality of life through evidence-based neurorehabilitation care.Purpose of this position: In collaboration with an interdisciplinary team, provides therapeutic services including evaluation, treatment, discharge planning and education.Responsibilities:Performs and documents comprehensive occupational therapy evaluationsDevelops and documents patient care plans to promote optimal function and safetyObserves, evaluates and documents patient's progressParticipates in hospital rounds and patient care conferencesEducates patients and caregivers on therapeutic techniques, cares and treatmentsCompletes all documentation and charges of services per departmental standardsFunctions as a clinical instructor for occupational therapy studentsDirects and supervises activities performed by the OT aides consistent with their training and skillProperly applies and operates rehabilitative equipmentDevelops and conducts occupational therapy in-services for other staffOrients and mentors newly assigned staffServes as a clinical resource for other staffParticipates in program developmentRepresents the occupational therapy department on committees and provides consultation to other departments and agencies as assignedAssumes responsibilities of the supervisor as assigned during the supervisor's absenceProvides work direction for clerical staffAssists in monitoring the quality of occupational therapy activities and servicesFunctions as a resource for departmental policies and proceduresQualifications:Minimum Qualifications:Graduate from an ACOTE® accredited OT educational programMinimum of 2 fulltime years of experience (4,160 hours)Certified or eligible for the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) certification examination for Occupational Therapist, Registered.As a condition of employment, employees hired on an "or eligible" status must take and pass the first available examination (within three consecutive administrations of the exam) within the 12-month period following his/her date of hireProof of Minnesota Board of Occupational Therapy Practitioner License or temporary licensePreferred Qualifications:Previous clinical experience/rehabilitation experienceCPR certificationKnowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:Knowledge of policies/procedures and practice standards; occupational therapy theory, techniques, and treatment, physical therapy and orthopedic equipment; counseling and educational techniques; bandaging and wrapping techniquesAbility to perform professional occupational therapy techniques and treatment; calibrate and operate occupational therapy equipmentAbility to provide work direction for ancillary personnelAbility to counsel and instruct patients and families; ability to recognize and document patient progressAbility to work cooperatively with other members of the medical teamAbility to interact with individuals of widely diverse lifestyles including ability to deal objectively with individuals whose attitudes and behaviors differ from his/her ownAbility to read and interpret written instructions, patient charts, and physicians' notesAbility to interpret policies and procedures in an advisory capacity (educate)
