Zone Maintenance Mechanic - Hospital

Be the Difference Behind the Scenes Perform routine and preventive maintenance in the repair and maintenance of buildings, facilities, and equipment within assigned areas of Duke University Hospital and Medical Center. Work Arrangement On-site Departmental Preferences Experience or training in a healthcare setting preferred. Minimum Qualifications Education/Training - High school diploma or GED. Experience - Three (3) to four (4) years minimum in a specific trade or general building maintenance and repair, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations - Valid N.C. Driver's license with a driving history acceptable under the Safe Driving Policy. Work Performed Essential duties and responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned). Conduct regular inspections of designated facilities and equipment; participate in image rounds if applicable; set up and maintain ongoing communication with customers to ensure appropriate and timely responses to repair and maintenance needs. Make minor repairs and corrections and perform routine preventive maintenance on electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and communication systems and equipment; perform repairs to general building facilities, including carpentry, ceiling and floor covering, doors, windows, and furniture; perform minor paint and patch work. Complete and/or assist in the completion of minor service requests as needed. Solicit advice from shop personnel in specific trades; refer more complex items to shop personnel; assist in repairs if necessary. Conduct regular inspections of fire and smoke partitions for penetrations; patch penetrations as necessary; report unusual problems to appropriate personnel. Advise management of general condition of facilities and equipment; recommend improvements and upgrades for budget planning. Maintain documentation and maintenance records to ensure compliance with regulations and codes. Complete daily records, logs, and timesheets. Physical Demands Regular walking. Frequent reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Occasional ladder or stairs climbing. Regular lifting of up to 10 pounds; frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds; occasional lifting of 50 pounds or more. Work Environment Occasional exposure to high places, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock; must attend safety training and follow guidelines. Noise level usually moderate. Anticipated Pay Range Duke University offers a base salary range of USD $21.62 to USD $35.75 per hour. Compensation considers scope, responsibilities, experience, education, and market factors.
