Job Title: Chemical Blender Job Description

This role is responsible for safely mixing, blending, and performing basic testing of a wide variety of liquid chemical products in an industrial manufacturing and laboratory environment. You will follow detailed batch and ingredient sheets, operate mixing and transfer equipment, and support laboratory testing to ensure products meet quality and regulatory standards. The position offers exposure to diverse product lines, including marine, automotive, car wash, swimming pool, and carpet care chemicals, with future training on powder products as needed.

Responsibilities

• Operate process equipment, including tanks, pumps, mixers, pH meters, level meters, flow meters, valves, and hoses to manufacture batches of chemical products according to batch and mixing sheets.

• Measure and weigh quantities of liquid and solid chemicals using scales and flow meters, and transfer materials into tanks in the correct sequence and amounts.

• Blend a wide variety of chemical products rather than a single formulation, transitioning efficiently from one product to the next while maintaining accuracy and consistency.

• Collect process samples during production and coordinate with laboratory personnel to analyze chemical properties and support formulation adjustments or new product development.

• Perform basic lab testing as trained, including pH checks and other routine quality control tests, and document results accurately.

• Conduct inventory cycle counts, locate raw materials in the warehouse, and transport materials to manufacturing areas using a forklift.

• Complete and maintain required documentation, including batch tickets, packaging sheets, scrubber operation logs, pH meter calibration records, and equipment inspection logs.

• Follow all operating procedures and maintain thorough records to support compliance with ISO 9000 quality systems, ISO environmental standards, and OSHA, EPA, DOT, and IEPA requirements.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, adhering to all site safety rules and procedures when working with hazardous chemicals.

• Assist in the transition to and mixing of powder products as needed, applying training to ensure a smooth and safe process.

• Collaborate with lab and mix room team members to support production schedules, troubleshoot issues, and ensure high-quality output.

• Use basic math skills to calculate quantities, verify measurements, and adjust batch sizes or ingredients as required.

Essential Skills

• At least 2 years of experience in chemical mixing or blending within an industrial environment.

• Experience working with cleaners, surfactants, detergents, or similar chemical products.

• Experience working in an industrial lab setting, including exposure to basic testing and quality control processes.

• Ability to read and follow batch sheets, ingredient lists, and operating procedures accurately.

• Proficiency with basic math, including addition and subtraction, for measurements and batch calculations.

• Forklift certification and the ability to safely operate a forklift for material handling.

• Comfort working with hazardous chemicals while strictly following safety procedures and guidelines.

• Ability to transition quickly between different products and formulations without compromising quality.

• High school diploma or equivalent.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience blending multiple product types rather than a single product line.

• Familiarity with marine, automotive, car wash, swimming pool, or carpet care chemical products.

• Experience using pH meters, flow meters, and other process measurement instruments.

• Exposure to ISO 9000 quality systems and ISO environmental systems.

• Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to OSHA, EPA, DOT, and IEPA standards.

• Strong attention to detail in documentation and recordkeeping.

• Ability to work occasional overtime when production needs require it.

• Strong teamwork and communication skills to work effectively with lab and production staff.

Work Environment

The role is based in an industrial manufacturing and laboratory setting that includes a small office area at the front of the building and a large attached manufacturing space where mixing and packaging occur. You will work around tanks, pumps, mixers, hoses, and other process equipment, handling hazardous chemicals in a controlled environment that follows strict safety procedures. The manufacturing area is relatively clean and organized, though temperatures can vary and may be cold or warm depending on the season. The schedule includes working on Saturday and Sunday plus two additional weekdays, with occasional overtime opportunities. Team members generally have positive working relationships and collaborate closely across the lab and mix room. Appropriate industrial attire and personal protective equipment are required to ensure safety while performing all tasks.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of WAYNE, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $21.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
