Chief Actuary

Description The Chief Actuary is responsible for leading the organization's actuarial function, including the analysis of financial risk, development of pricing strategies, and oversight of reserve adequacy. This role ensures that actuarial practices support the company's financial stability, regulatory requirements, and long-term strategic objectives. In addition, the Chief Actuary will partner closely with IT and other stakeholders to design, develop, and maintain a centralized data warehouse that consolidates enterprise data. Responsibilities include assessing business and actuarial data needs, evaluating and selecting vendors, supporting system implementation, and ensuring ongoing functionality and usability for the actuarial department. The role will also collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver data-driven insights that inform strategic decision-making across the organization. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES • Develop, maintain, and enhance actuarial models related to pricing, reserving, forecasting, and risk analysis • Analyze large datasets to identify trends, drivers, and emerging risks • Prepare reports, presentations, and recommendations for internal stakeholders and leadership • Support financial planning, experience studies, and assumption setting • Collaborate with underwriting, finance, product, and data teams • Ensure compliance with regulatory, professional, and internal standards • Participate in process improvements and automation initiatives • Performs other related duties as assigned
• Develop Standard Operating Procedures • Define and prioritize actuarial and enterprise data requirements to support pricing, reserving, forecasting, and risk management activities. • Partner with IT, data engineering, and business stakeholders to design a centralized, scalable data warehouse architecture that consolidates actuarial, financial, operational, and external data sources. • Work with IT in the evaluation, selection, and oversight of data warehouse platforms, analytics tools, and third-party vendors, ensuring alignment with the needs of the actuarial department. • Provide actuarial leadership during system implementation, including but not limited to data mapping, validation, testing, and conversion from legacy systems. • Establish data governance standards, including data quality, integrity, documentation, access controls, and auditability for actuarial data. • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop standardized metrics, dashboards, and analytical outputs that enable data-driven decision-making. • Oversee ongoing functionality, performance, and usability of actuarial data tools, ensuring they evolve with changing business and regulatory needs. • Promote best practices in data management, automation, and advanced analytics within the actuarial function. • Serve as a strategic advisor on enterprise data initiatives, leveraging actuarial insight to enhance organizational analytics and long-term planning. • Other duties as assigned by manager Requirements • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics or a related field, Master's degree or MBA preferred • 10 years of industry-related experience including three years in upper management required • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical content to non-technical audiences • Proficiency in actuarial modeling and statistical tools (e.g., Prophet, AXIS, Emblem). • Strong command of analytical programming languages (e.g., Python, R, SAS, SQL). • Deep understanding of risk, financial theory, and capital modeling • Extensive knowledge of the principles, procedures, and best practices in the industry • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-based environment
