Material Supervisor

The Materials Supervisor is responsible for leading the materials team to ensure accurate inventory control, efficient material flow, and timely support of production and shipping operations. This role promotes safety, quality, and compliance with all regulatory and company standards while driving continuous improvement in material accuracy and process efficiency. Salary Range: $65,000/yr - $75,000/yr Leadership & People Management Provide leadership, coaching, and direction to the materials team through clear communication, performance management, and progressive discipline when required. Direct and assign daily work, ensuring employees are trained, competent, and equipped to perform their duties safely and efficiently. Collaborate with cross-functional departments and leadership to achieve optimal organizational performance and customer satisfaction. Demonstrate flexibility to support multiple shifts when needed to address employee or production challenges. Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance Ensure all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and procedures are followed, and regulatory obligations are met. Lead by example in promoting a safety‑first culture and proactive hazard awareness. Support and reinforce 5S workplace organization and 5P planning principles (“Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance”). Ensure the team actively participates in maintaining a safe and compliant work environment. Materials & Inventory Operations Oversee all material transactions, from inbound receipt to outbound shipment of finished goods. Manage stockroom inventory and enforce FIFO (First‑In, First‑Out) rotation practices. Maintain and improve the cycle counting process, ensuring accuracy and policy compliance. Lead initiatives to reduce obsolete, excess, and negative inventory to zero. Reconcile material issues and variances, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions. Ensure data integrity and accuracy in ERP and inventory management systems. Work cross‑functionally with Finance, Purchasing, Internal Audit, Quality, and Manufacturing Engineering to meet operational objectives. Process & Continuous Improvement Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance inventory accuracy, process efficiency, and material handling effectiveness. Develop, communicate, and deploy departmental policies, guidelines, and best practices that promote operational success. Champion Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and 5P principles to drive consistency and eliminate waste. Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of procedures and work instructions. Keep abreast of new developments in materials management and share relevant updates across departments. Performance Management & Reporting Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) related to materials performance, accuracy, and service levels. Lead efforts to reduce inventory adjustments through root cause analysis and corrective action. Ensure data‑driven decision‑making by maintaining accurate and timely reports for all material‑related metrics. Partner with internal stakeholders to ensure performance outcomes align with company and customer requirements. Promote operational excellence through adherence to documented standards, accountability, and proactive improvement. Qualifications Education: APICS/Supply Chain certification, in combination with experience in logistics, supply chain, and industrial supervision. Experience: 3 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing facility. Specific Job Skills: Strong leadership and people management, analytical thinking and continuous improvement, commitment to safety and compliance, multitasking ability, teamwork, and adaptability in fast‑paced environments.
