Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Stroke Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years of RN experience in acute care License: Active RN license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIH Must-Have: - Experience with titratable gtts including Cardene, Cardizem, Insulin, Heparin, Neo, and Levophed - Chest tube management, tracheostomy care, peritoneal dialysis, ISTAT, and CSF (lumbar) drain management preferred - Ability to pass an EKG competency exam prior to arrival Description: The unit has a capacity of 12 beds. Patient types include CVA/TIA in need of TPA administration, spinal surgical cases, and stepdown unit overflow. Common conditions include AFIB/RVR, DKA, HTN, COPD, ARF, and post-heart catheterization patients. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3 with CNA support at a ratio of 1:9. Support on the unit includes a charge nurse who may also have a patient assignment. Phlebotomy services are available in-house, and an IV/VAT team is available from 7 AM to 3 PM. Respiratory therapy is also available on-site. There is a hospitalist available in-house for support. Telemetry monitoring is provided with cardiac monitors in each patient room, linked to the nurse’s station for backup. Nurses are responsible for main monitoring and printing strips for each patient per shift. The electronic medical record system used is Meditech Expanse. IV pumps in use are Alaris, and medication dispensing is managed through Pyxis. Travelers may float to stepdown and med-surg units, with ratios of 1:5 to 1:6. Weekend rotation is required every other weekend, with a mandatory schedule of 4 days one week and 3 days the next. Night shift staff will follow a specific rotation schedule. Holiday expectations include working 2 out of 3 holidays. Scrub color is pewter, and approved t-shirt colors are gray, white, or black with designated monogram. Jackets must be gray or black, and badges must be worn above the waist and visible at all times. The culture on the unit is traveler-friendly.
