RECREATION THERAPIST

Job Details Location: Central Islip, NY 11722 Salary Range: $21.60 - $26.73 hourly Part‑time, 13.5 hours per week with a flexible schedule. Recreation Therapist Opportunity Responsible for structuring, incorporating, and monitoring meaningful individualized group activities for people with developmental disabilities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Develop and conduct a program of meaningful activities that are intellectually stimulating, promote health maintenance, encourage participation of program participants in the community, and involve volunteers. Plan, evaluate, and structure a recreation program that will be incorporated into each individual's daily activity schedule, including treatment goals and objectives that will be developed, monitored, and updated as needed. Maintain a monthly recreation calendar of activities for use by the residence to provide information and outings for program participants and staff. Ensure equipment and supplies for programming and leisure‑time activities are available and on‑site. Work in conjunction with the Residential Manager to keep all information current and representative of individuals' present functioning and development level; conduct annual evaluations of individual strengths and needs, recreational skill levels, interim reviews, monthly summaries, and monitoring data sheets in reference to recreation goals and objectives. Ensure all goals and records meet state and federal regulations. Plan, research, and develop community outings, such as sports activities. Coordinate outings (transportation) with other residences. In conjunction with other disciplines, evaluate and help achieve treatment goals and implement individual recreation programs when needed. Participate in the decision‑making process regarding overall programming and residents’ well‑being. Attend scheduled quarterly, annual, and team meetings. Supervise, instruct, and demonstrate programs and activities to staff that will implement the program, and provide follow‑up to monitor staff and programs. Coordinate a schedule of planned activities and spend a given amount of time giving hands‑on training to program participants and staff. Conduct on‑site in‑service training for the staff. Attend community activities with staff and participants as needed. Qualifications Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four‑year college or university. One to six months of related experience. Valid New York State driver's license and at least one year of licensed driving experience.
