Registered School Nurse

Registered School NurseJOB GOAL: The School Nurse provides professional nursing services that advance the well-being, academic success, and lifelong achievement of students. To that end, the school nurse will facilitate positive student responses to normal development; promote health and safety; intervene with actual and potential health problems and actively collaborate with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self-management, self-advocacy, and learning.REPORTS TO: Special Services Director, Certified District Nurse, Building PrincipalQUALIFICATIONS: Licensed as a registered professional nurse in Illinois. Prior professional nursing experience, preferably pediatric, adolescent, community, and/or mental health nursing. Experience in working with children with severe/profound disabilities desirable. Current CPR program card.PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist in preparing emergency medical plans and assure they are present at appropriate locations, i.e. local emergency responders, school classrooms/buildings, transportation vehicles, etc. Insure that the medication guidelines of the State of Illinois are adhered to by teachers, parents, doctor. Maintain an open line of communication with parents, teachers, physicians, and other pertinent personnel in order to function as an effective member of the educational team. Administer first aid and emergency care as required for special education during the school day. Maintain up-to-date health records of all students as they relate to the students medical program. Continually improve professional knowledge and skills related to position and to maintain professional standards. Computer literacy and competency in use of existing technology. Needed school health or nursing services, where relevant. Provides nursing care for staff members as needed. Other duties as assigned.COMPENSATION: Pay and benefits based on experience and salary established by the BOE
