About the Position

Job Title: Emergency Room Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, PALS, TNCC Must-Have: Pediatric experience is ideal. Cerner experience is preferred. Experience working in a Level 1 or 2 trauma center is a plus. At least 2 years of Emergency Room experience is required. Description: The Emergency Room is a combined Emergency and Urgent Care unit. It serves as an Adult and Pediatric Level 2 Trauma Center. The facility is designated a STEMI receiving and Stroke Center. The unit comprises 38 beds and 5 trauma bays. Patients are treated on average between 140-180 per day. Nurse to patient ratios in the ER are 1:3, and in Urgent Care, 1:6. Common patient diagnoses include chest pain, abdominal pain, sepsis, syncope, elevated heart rate, headache, and suicidal ideation. Common infusions include heparin, nitroglycerin, diltiazem, amiodarone, nicardipine, and norepinephrine. Emergency room staff includes ED physicians, mid-level practitioners, and emergency care physicians. Charge nurses may have assignments based on the department's needs. Dedicated health unit coordinators are available 24/7. Technicians assist with various tasks during peak hours. Available respiratory therapy support is not on-site 24/7 but can be called upon for assistance. RNs are expected to monitor patient rhythms on provided equipment. X-ray and CT capabilities are available within the department. RNs are responsible for drawing labs, while phlebotomy handles blood cultures. Scheduling is done through an RN scheduler with no self-scheduling. Weekend shifts are required every other weekend, and holiday shifts are required every other holiday. On-call duties are not a requirement. Floating to other units is rare and generally consists of assisting as needed. Scrubs should be of any solid color, clean, and professional.
