Mechanical Estimator

Job Title: Mechanical Estimator Job Description
Join our team as a Mechanical Estimator, where you will play a crucial role in creating cost estimates for large capital construction projects. You will provide business support to management and guidance to junior staff, collaborate with the team on pricing and benchmarking research, and maintain project documents and files.
Responsibilities

• Analyze blueprints and other documents to prepare detailed cost estimates.
• Perform accurate quantity takeoffs of available design documents.
• Obtain accurate and up-to-date pricing information from databases, contractors, and suppliers to utilize in estimates.
• Input estimate takeoff information for specific disciplines and develop unit cost pricing.
• Work with engineers to develop a clear understanding of project scope during estimate preparation.
• Develop relationships with members of A/E firms and project team members.
• Assist senior staff in identifying ways to make projects more efficient and improve task accuracy.
• Maintain project documents such as drawings and specifications in an organized manner.
• Keep project files on the file server in accordance with company standards.
• Maintain and update the data library of costs.
• Prepare cost reconciliation between two or more estimates and explain variance cost drivers.

Essential Skills

• Proficiency in MEP and mechanical estimation.
• Strong skills in Microsoft Excel.
• Experience in quantity takeoffs and cost analysis.
• Ability to interpret blueprints and engineering documents.
• Seven years of relevant experience in manufacturing or mechanical/electrical/process piping contracting.
• Bachelor's degree in Construction, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
• Working knowledge of electronic takeoff systems including CAD Measure.
• Familiarity with commercially available construction cost estimating systems.
• Understanding of Information Technology tools including Microsoft Windows OS, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office Suite, and Microsoft Project.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Professional designation such as RICS, CCE, CCM, AIA, PE, ASPE, AACEI, CVS, AVS, or RA is preferred.
• Coachable and well-rounded candidates with a strong background in construction, engineering, and piping.

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Portland, OR.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $60.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
