Retail Manager

Job Summary The Retail Manager is responsible for the retail operations at Meow Wolf Los Angeles, overseeing retail staff, on‑site warehouse department, and departmental budget. The Retail Manager reports to the General Manager and ensures profitability through inventory management, staffing, budgeting, and operational improvement. Key Responsibilities Hire and train staff to provide a memorable and uniquely Meow Wolf level of service to guests. Directly supervise retail leads, gift shop staff, and warehouse staff. Execute store inventories and cycle counts. Manage the retail department budget and the on‑site warehouse department. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws. Initiate, encourage, and maintain internal and cross‑departmental communication. Model and enforce proper cash management protocols by delivering POS training to staff and ensuring cash handling compliance. Ensure the store is properly stocked and visually merchandised as required. Support all site initiatives including role‑playing element for staff when interacting with guests. Perform any role within the retail department as needed. Work with the Scheduling Manager to staff work centers efficiently. Provide feedback and performance reviews for retail staff. Analyze customer feedback and suggest product line improvements. Listen actively and resolve complaints. Maintain high standards of organization and cleanliness in the gift shop. Respond to injuries and emergencies appropriately. Review and sign off on payroll for all hourly employees. Project hiring needs and complete hiring procedures. Recommend and develop retail staff training with Human Resources. Create, communicate, and enforce policies and procedures. Communicate events, special programs, and projects to staff. Track visitation fluctuations and adjust staffing levels accordingly. Required Qualifications Minimum 5 years management experience in retail, exhibit, attraction, museum, or similar environment. Proven experience as a Retail Manager or analogous role. Experience with visual merchandising. Hands‑on experience with point‑of‑sale systems. Experience developing, managing, and achieving budgets. Strong service skills and welcoming demeanor. Flexible schedule including weekdays, weekends, evenings, and holidays. Experience training staff and identifying training needs. Adult + Child + Infant CPR, AED, and First Aid certification preferred. Bilingual, especially English and Spanish, preferred. Excellent customer service, communication, and organizational skills. Leadership and staff management ability. Good judgment in complex management situations. Ability to remain dispassionate in emergencies and difficult interactions. Ability to enforce safety rules. Adaptability in a fast‑paced environment. Work Environment and Physical Demands The role requires working in a professional office environment that includes computers, phones, and scanners, as well as an indoor setting with noisy, dim lighting, and special effects. Physical demands include walking, standing, using stairs or elevators, lifting up to 20 pounds, and repetitive wrist or hand motions. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception. Work Schedule Full‑time position with a flexible schedule covering evenings, weekends, and holidays. Supervisor Responsibilities Position requires supervisory responsibilities. Travel No travel required.
