DC Greens works in solidarity with those who are most impacted to build a just food system in the nation's capital and break down the systemic barriers that harm our community.DC Greens seeks a Finance Manager to lead and complete the organization's core financial responsibilities while supporting participatory financial accountability. This role is responsible for completing bookkeeping, accounting, payroll, budgeting, reporting, audit coordination, compliance, and financial planning tasks. The Finance Manager helps ensure sound financial management, transparency, and effective internal support across the organization. The ideal candidate has nonprofit finance experience, strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills, excellent attention to detail, and a solid understanding of financial regulations and standards.Essential Job ResponsibilitiesFinancial SupportPerform routine daily financial activities, accounts payable, accounts receivable, banking reconciliation, monthly reconciliations, and end-of-month reportingComplete semi-monthly staff and vendor payrollRecord all financial transactions into QuickBooksMonitor cash flow positions and projections to ensure adequate operational liquidityCoordinate the annual audit process, including liaising with external auditors and bookkeepers to deliver requested documentation; ensure timely completion of audited financial statements and 990 filingLead compliance efforts with GAAP, the IRS, and D.C. GovernmentLead the organization's participatory budgeting processProvide training to and guidance for staff on completing financial responsibilities at all levels of the organizationCreate financial reports to support leadership decision-makingLiaise with insurance agent or government agencies to maintain appropriate compliance and insurance policiesGenerate quarterly, annual and ad hoc financial reporting and analysis that support fiscal oversight, development efforts, and board communicationsMaintain and update financial policies and procedures manual, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, as well as alignment with revenue and programmatic goals and processes and organizational values around equity, inclusivity, etc.Development SupportServe as a finance and compliance resource to development staff on IRS and GAAP requirements related to grants and grant structuresReview grant budgets to confirm alignment with the organizational budget and accounting systemProvide financial reports and finance-related guidance to support development staff with grant reporting and invoicingStay informed about development activities and processes to offer finance-related recommendations that supportProgrammatic SupportProvide support to programmatic leadership in both organizational and programmatic financial managementReview vendor contracts and documentation to ensure the financial components are properly expressed and ensuring appropriate accounting setup for any restricted grantsProvide program managers with guidance on using restricted grantsProvide monthly budget support for individual program budgetsRequirementsWhile we understand that no single candidate can possess every qualification listed below, the following are considered priority areas:Commitment to the vision and mission of DC GreensBachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related fieldAt least five years'(5) experience in finance at a nonprofit organization or an accounting firm responsible for nonprofit clientsExperience supporting and working closely with staff and varying levels of experience to interpret financial dataA positive attitude and concern for people, cultural humility, and good listening skillsExcellent communication skillsExperience performing financial reporting for federal grant programs (preferred)Excellent organizational skills, with a strong orientation toward developing and maintaining systems, standard operating procedures, and protocolsExperience with the Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, and financial software (e.g. QuickBooks online)Experience working with a team remotely using collaborative workplace technology tools (e.g. Adobe Acrobat, Zoom, and Asana)Excellent communication skills with an ability to translate financial regulations and standards to laypersonsMust be able to pass a background checkLocationDC Greens is located in Washington, D.C. This position is primarily remote. Employees must be available to attend in-person meetings and events throughout the year. DC Greens does not reimburse travel expenses for meetings or events for individuals traveling from outside the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area.Compensation & BenefitsThis is a regular, full-time, salaried, exempt position. DC Greens' salaries are set using a pay equity process tool. This process was implemented by the organization in 2019 and utilizes social justice principles to equitably compensate staff. The salary is $89,400 to $94,600 commensurate with experience and non-negotiable.
