Location: Westbrook, ME
Schedule: M-F 8 am to 4 pm with flexibility as needed.
Compensation: Based on experience
Start date: ASAP

We are seeking a warm, reliable, and professional early childhood education teacher to provide high-quality care and early learning experiences for children in a family childcare setting. The ideal candidate is nurturing, organized, safety-conscious, and comfortable balancing hands-on caregiving with lesson planning, meal preparation, and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Provide attentive, responsive, and developmentally appropriate care for children.
• Maintain a safe, clean, welcoming, and engaging learning environment.
• Support children’s social-emotional, physical, cognitive, language, and creative development.
• Plan and implement a research-based early childhood curriculum aligned with children’s interests, developmental needs, and appropriate learning standards.
• Observe children and document learning, development, participation, and progress through written notes, photos, portfolios, or other approved methods.
• Communicate regularly and professionally with families about children’s experiences, routines, accomplishments, and needs.
• Prepare and cook assigned meals and snacks while following food-safety, sanitation, allergy, and nutritional guidelines.
• Follow established routines for meals, rest, toileting, transitions, outdoor play, and personal hygiene.
• Supervise children actively and maintain appropriate child-to-adult safety practices.
• Complete required cleaning, sanitizing, and classroom organization tasks.
• Follow all applicable childcare regulations, licensing requirements, health and safety procedures, and family childcare policies.
• Participate in professional development and contribute to a positive, respectful team environment.

Qualifications

• Experience working with young children in a childcare, preschool, classroom, or family setting.
• Understanding of child development and developmentally appropriate practice.
• Ability to implement and document a research-based curriculum.
• Strong communication, organization, observation, and record keeping skills.
• Experience preparing meals for children or willingness to learn.
• Current CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain certification.
• Ability to pass required background checks and meet applicable licensing requirements.
• Reliable transportation and a dependable attendance record.
• Ability to lift, carry, bend, sit on the floor, and actively participate in children’s activities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Early childhood education coursework, CDA, associate degree, or related credential.
• Experience in a licensed family childcare or early learning program.
• Experience with curriculum planning, child observations, portfolios, or developmental assessments.
• Experience accommodating food allergies, dietary restrictions, or special health needs.

Develop Through Play is a family child care program located in Westbrook, just over the Portland line. We provide care for 12 children ages 7 mo-4 years of age. We utilize a research based curriculum, provide two meals and a snack daily, with lots and lots of outside time. We pride ourselves on our small 1:4 ratios and flexible team.
