Medical Assistant - Specialist, Cardiology

Our Care Promoter, Specialist Cardiology is an unlicensed medical professional performing administrative and clinical tasks to support specialist PCPs and provide an excellent patient experience. Responsibilities Measure patient vital signs and record interview and medical history. Collaborate to ensure specialist medical records and consult notes are complete. Prepare patients for examinations, assist physicians, and explain procedures and instructions. Escort patients to exam rooms and maintain comfort and well‑being. Observe and report changes in patient conditions to the specialist and clinical personnel. Perform non‑critical medical and therapeutic procedures under physician supervision. Collect phlebotomy and other lab specimens; perform basic waived lab tests. Administer medications, change dressings, apply bandages, remove sutures, and perform first aid under physician supervision. Call prescriptions to pharmacy when authorized by physician. Use communication skills with appropriate medical terminology and follow ethical conduct. Provide health coaching to a defined group of patients, supporting healthy lifestyle choices via weekly calls. Catalog and communicate patient needs to the specialist and clinical personnel. Maintain supplies, equipment, stocks and sterilize instruments; practice OSHA safety standards. Schedule appointments upon check‑out and coordinate with Care Facilitators to confirm and reschedule appointments. Coordinate with Care Coordinators to ensure specialist orders are completed and patients scheduled. Present customer service survey during check‑out and recover service when needed. Process patient phone messages and call patients to obtain and relay pertinent information for the physician. Perform other duties as assigned and modified at manager’s discretion. Qualifications & Experience Strong knowledge of Medical Assistant protocols, terminology, services, standards, policies and procedures. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills with compassion and empathy for patients and families. Exceptional oral and written communication skills, time management, organizational skills. Ability to collaborate with physicians, nurses, case managers, front desk staff and center managers. Ability to manage complex patient requests from providers. Independent decision‑making for some workload tasks. Calm and effective in busy or stressful situations. Proficient skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel) and other word‑processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation software. Willingness to travel locally and/or regionally up to 95% of the time for covering other centers. Fluency in spoken and written English. Education & Certification High school diploma or GED required. Certified Medical Assistant from a nationally recognized certifying agency required. Minimum of 1 year of work experience as a Medical Assistant, Patient Care Technician or similar in a hospital, medical clinic or comparable environment required. Experience working with geriatric patients is a plus. Experience working with Cardiologist, Podiatrist or other specialists preferred. EMR system experience preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AMA) or American Red Cross required within first 90 days of employment. Pay & Benefits Hourly pay range: $20.20 – $28.83. Compensation may depend on experience, education, location and other factors. This position may also be eligible for bonuses or commissions.
