Job Summary

The Field Safety Specialist is responsible for promoting and maintaining a strong safety culture across company plants, projects, and operations. This position serves as a resource to employees, supervisors, and managers by providing safety support, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements, and actively participating in hazard identification and mitigation efforts.

This position is based out of the Draper headquarters; however, the majority of the work will be performed in the field supporting over-the-road and remote project operations. The Field Safety Specialist will spend considerable time traveling to project sites and batch plants to support safety initiatives, ensure compliance with company and regulatory requirements, and promote a strong safety culture. This position actively assists with hazard identification and mitigation and is expected to maintain approximately a 75% field and 25% office work ratio.

Location

Location: Based out of Draper, Utah, with extensive travel over the road to various project and job site locations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Safety Leadership & Culture

  • Promote and reinforce a strong safety culture throughout the organization.
  • Set the example and model safe behaviors and expectations.
  • Partner with managers, supervisors, and project leaders to drive safety awareness and accountability.
  • Develop strong working relationships with field employees and project personnel.
  • Reinforce company policies and procedures that support operational and safety objectives.

2. Inspections, Audits & Hazard Mitigation

  • Conduct safety inspections, audits, and employee evaluations to ensure compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify hazards and actively assist in implementing corrective actions and mitigation measures.
  • Perform plant and project site safety inspections.
  • Assist with traffic flow planning and safe work practices at project locations.
  • Ensure adequate supplies of safety equipment and materials are maintained.

3. Incident Management & Investigations

  • Ensure timely reporting of incidents, injuries, and near misses.
  • Conduct investigations and root cause analyses to prevent recurrence.
  • Prepare and maintain incident reports and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with workers' compensation claims and return-to-work processes.
  • Develop and communicate lessons learned and safety alerts.

4. Training & Regulatory Compliance

  • Assist with scheduling and conducting safety-related training programs.
  • Maintain working knowledge of OSHA, DOT, FMCSA, and applicable safety regulations.
  • Assist with preparing notices and documentation required by regulatory agencies.
  • Support the development, maintenance, and implementation of safety programs.
  • Ensure compliance with company, customer, and regulatory requirements.

5. Reporting & Documentation

  • Enter safety observations, incidents, and related information into company and customer-required platforms.
  • Maintain accurate records and safety documentation.
  • Track corrective actions and follow up on outstanding issues.
  • Prepare reports and communicate trends to management.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives through analysis and reporting.

6. Communication & Collaboration

  • Participate in project meetings and safety discussions.
  • Collaborate with customers, contractors, and other safety professionals to promote a unified safety culture.
  • Work closely with operations, dispatch, maintenance, and project personnel to support safety objectives.
  • Maintain professionalism and positive working relationships with employees and the public.

  • Technology: Proficiency with Microsoft Office and safety management platforms.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree in Safety, Occupational Health, or related field preferred.
  • Safety certifications such as CHST, CSHO, ASP, CSP, STSC, or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of four years of safety experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, FMCSA, and applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Knowledge of ready mix operations, construction environments, workers' compensation processes, and industrial safety standards preferred.
  • Experience with safety management and customer-required platforms such as Procore, ISNetWorld, Veriforce, or Avetta preferred.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to travel to project locations and spend significant time in the field.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must successfully pass pre-employment screening requirements.
  • Regular and predictable attendance required.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to climb ladders and stairs.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work in field environments for extended periods.
  • Ability to use hands and fingers to operate equipment and office tools.
  • Vision abilities include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to recognize hazards and respond appropriately.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Flexibility with work schedules, including long hours and emergency responses when necessary.
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.

Working Conditions

  • Primarily field-based with regular travel to plants, job sites, and project locations.
  • Exposure to outdoor elements, noise, dust, traffic, and heavy equipment.
  • Work may involve remote locations and changing project environments.
  • Schedule may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and overtime based on operational needs.
  • Work performed independently while maintaining close communication with operations and project leadership.
