Family Visitation Specialist

844 Delaware Avenue Buffalo, NY 14209, USA The Family Visitation Specialist coordinates and delivers a coached family visitation program for parents working toward reunification with their children who are currently placed with relatives or other caregivers. Through structured visits, the specialist helps parents build effective parenting skills and strengthen healthy, positive relationships with their children to support progress toward less restrictive levels of supervision and increased independence. Full‑time candidates should be available for a typical schedule of approximately 37.5 hours per week, including late morning and evening hours (e.g., 11:00 am–7:30 pm). Part‑time staff are encouraged to apply and generally work 10–15 hours per week, primarily in the afternoon, evening, or Saturday visitation hours. Occasional Saturday visits may also be required. What the Day Looks Like A Family Visitation Specialist’s day includes transporting children from school, daycare, foster homes, or kinship caregivers to visitation settings; facilitating and coaching supervised visits; documenting progress; and collaborating with caregivers, service providers, and referral sources. Visits may occur in agency rooms, the community, or families’ homes as children move toward less restrictive supervision. Major Responsibilities / Activities Facilitate initial meetings with parents to explain visit coaching, establish a visit schedule, identify children’s needs, and develop a preliminary visit plan Supervise visits to ensure child safety and well‑being, focusing on children’s needs in each visit Meet with parents before each visit to review the plan and rehearse as needed; debrief after each visit to review outcomes and plan the next visit Use coaching, modeling, praising, rehearsal, and strength focusing to help parents recognize and meet their children’s needs Provide coaching and support to improve relationships between parents and kinship caregivers Frequently transport children to visits when required Complete progress notes in the electronic case record promptly after each visit Oversee visitation room scheduling and maintain rooms in a clean, tidy condition Establish and maintain positive working relationships with parents, families, children, program staff, and agency partners Maintain all required documents and comply with Vehicle Safety and Usage Policy Maintain a dynamic caseload and meet established monthly billable service targets Prepare, complete, and submit required reports and statistical data on client population in a timely manner Qualifications Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field Preferred: One (1) year of experience in child welfare or a related field Well‑developed interpersonal and communication skills Ability to accept feedback and directives from program management and agency leadership Highly organized, self‑motivated, and a self‑starter Strong organization and time‑management skills, including timely completion of progress notes, billing documentation, transportation records, and other required reports to support compliance and reimbursement Proficient in verbal and written communication with a calm, compassionate demeanor in person, on virtual platforms, and over the phone Demonstrated commitment to a team atmosphere and willingness to assist others Availability to work regularly in the evening and on weekends to meet family scheduling needs Valid New York State driver’s license and reliable personal vehicle for work‑related transportation (agency vehicles typically available, but personal use may be required when unavailable) Competitive Pay $48,000 – $50,500 per year, based on education and qualifications Benefits Paid Time Off (PTO), paid holidays, and bereavement time Employer‑Paid Life Insurance Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance options Wellness Program and Incentives Health Savings Account (HSA) Dependent Care FSA Employee Referral Bonus Qualifying Employer for Public Service Student Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) 403(b) Right Away and Employer‑Contributions (1,000 hours each year) Equal Opportunity Employer Child and Family Services provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, veteran or familial status, or genetics.
