Normal Work Schedule:  Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm; some evenings & weekends as necessary

Job Summary:  The Research Project Coordinator supports the overall development of research project(s). Assists with project design, management, and implementation. Promotes the project and serves as liaison between the project and contacts internal and external to the University. May supervise students, provide general office assistance, create promotional materials, and assist in the development of other potential projects.

Additional Department Summary:  Project FREEDOM: First Responder Education and Expansion of Drug Overdose Medication is training first responders (firefighters, law enforcement officers, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, mobile crisis providers, and other organizations that respond to overdose-related incidents), faith-based organizations, high-risk service providers such as those who provide services to the criminally involved and unhoused population, and other key community sectors – in all of Alabama’s 67 counties to prevent opioid overdose-related deaths. The team will work to reduce opioid overdose deaths in Alabama through access to FDA-approved OORM, trainings opioid safety, overdose, OORM administration, emerging trends, safety measures for emerging drug trends, prevention strategies, proper prescribing, and substance use treatment services. The project will assist the state of Alabama in collaborative relationships and coalitions to increase community awareness of opioid overdose prevention, Good Samaritan Law, and post-overdose referral and recovery support connections through coordinated outreach and engagement activities that strengthen partnerships between first responders, behavioral health providers, and the communities they serve.

The Project Coordinator will have the responsibility of coordinating a variety of activities, materials, and information to support the implementation of Project FREEDOM. Assist the Project Manager in communicating with local and statewide boards. Help to keep records, assist in writing annual reports for funders, assist with communication with the FREEDOM Project Team, and help in the management of data collection. Coordinate referral protocols, implementation, and fidelity. Assist the Project Manager in the development and implementation of the participant recruitment plan.

Required Minimum Qualifications:  Bachelor's degree or higher and some experience coordinating projects .

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.

Skills and Knowledge:  Strong organizational skills as evidenced by work history. Able to work independently using sound judgment and solid decision-making skills to solve problems and to work through barriers that may impact progress. Excellent presentation skills to provide education and training on mental and physical health, substance use and related topics. Ability to work a flexible schedule. Experience with basic office software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications:  Bachelor's degree in social work, counseling, nursing, health education, health promotion or a related field and three (3) years experience, OR Master's degree in a health-related field, including applied behavioral sciences, psychology, health education/promotion, or social work.
