Job Summary

A direct hire Bank Teller opportunity is available in San Mateo, CA for a banking professional who enjoys building client relationships, handling financial transactions accurately, and supporting new account operations. This role is ideal for a customer-focused banking candidate with teller experience, new account knowledge, and a strong interest in helping clients choose the right financial products and services.

This position offers the opportunity to work in a professional branch environment where accuracy, service, teamwork, and compliance are highly valued. The role supports both new and existing clients and provides exposure to consumer accounts, business accounts, teller operations, account maintenance, cross-selling, and branch administration. Candidates with stronger banking experience may be considered for higher-level responsibilities, including complex account support, transaction approvals, supervisory overrides, and operational assistance when branch leadership is unavailable.

Key Responsibilities

- Open and maintain consumer checking and savings accounts, CDs, IRAs, and applicable business accounts based on experience level.
- Process teller transactions, new account transactions, account maintenance requests, account closures, and general banking inquiries with accuracy and professionalism.
- Interview and profile clients to understand financial needs, recommend appropriate banking products and services, and identify cross-selling opportunities.
- Ensure all account documentation is accurate, complete, approved, and properly uploaded into banking systems.
- Maintain compliance with banking regulations, including Bank Secrecy Act requirements, information security procedures, account titling rules, and documentation standards.
- Build strong client relationships, resolve service concerns professionally, and support branch business development, retention, and profitability goals.

- Pay range: $20.00 to $30.00 per hour.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Open and support consumer and business banking accounts.

- Recommend banking products and services based on client needs.
- Support branch operations, compliance procedures, client service, and relationship development.

- Banking or teller experience required, with level determined by experience and account-opening knowledge.
- CSR II level: minimum of 1 year of banking or teller experience, beginner-level consumer account opening experience, and at least 1 year of strong customer service experience.
- CSR III level: minimum of 2 years of banking or teller experience, experience opening consumer and basic business accounts, and at least 2 years of strong customer relations experience.
- Senior CSR III level: minimum of 3 years of banking or teller experience and advanced experience opening consumer and complex business accounts.
- Working knowledge of banking regulations, including BSA and information security requirements.
- Strong cash handling, transaction accuracy, documentation, and account maintenance skills.
- Excellent customer service, relationship-building, verbal communication, and written communication skills.
- Ability to identify client needs and recommend appropriate banking solutions in a consultative, service-focused manner.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and banking software or systems.
- Strong judgment, professionalism, discretion, and ability to handle confidential information.
- Ability to work effectively with clients, coworkers, management, and internal business partners.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience opening basic or complex business accounts.
- Prior supervisory, lead, or branch support experience.
- Ability to assist with complex transactions, large transaction approvals, supervisory overrides, and escalated client situations.
- Experience supporting business clients with Treasury Services, Remote Deposit Capture, armored services, or courier services.
- Strong knowledge of branch operations, compliance reporting, returned items, overdrafts, callbacks, and transaction review processes.
