Sr Plumber Steamfitter / Maintenance Mechanic - Housing Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Sr Plumber Steamfitter / Maintenance Mechanic - Housing for the Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O). The role involves working independently in a “zone,” as the sole Plumber Steamfitter/Maintenance Mechanic on a campus, or guiding and instructing a group of mechanics in plumbing, steam fitting, and mechanical duties required for all university facilities. Responsibilities Work according to work orders with little or no instruction. Estimate work and procure appropriate materials for self or group. Guide and instruct craft trainees. Perform any duties of the group and general duties in other trade areas as assigned. Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience: High school/vocational school education or equivalent, plus four years of experience performing plumbing and steam fitting tasks. Must be competent in performing complex and varied plumbing and steam fitting tasks. Successful completion of an approved training program or certified apprenticeship program in the trade, plus two years experience and proven competency may substitute for the above experience. Certifications / Licenses: Valid driver’s license with two years driving experience. Completion of Rutgers Defensive Driving Course. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Welding and brazing experience may be required. Commercial Driver’s License may be required. Good communication skills, ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and ability to read and comprehend technical manuals and blueprints. Preferred Qualifications None specified.
