Accounting Clerk

Accounting Clerk I Role Summary : Enters and updates data, reviews accounts payable correspondence, prepares documentation, and handles various clerical duties to support the County’s financial operations. Responsibilities Enters and updates data utilizing spreadsheet or database applications Reviews Accounts Payable electronic correspondence and distributes invoices accordingly Performs data entry for Accounts Payable, including scanning, filing, and updating records Establishes and maintains complex reports and filing systems using Microsoft Word and Excel Prepares documentation for outside requests for Tax ID or Tax exemption Communicates with internal County staff concerning discrepancies and processing issues Provides backup to other Accounting Clerks Processes deposit forms, requisitions, and distribution logs Prints, sorts, and issues a variety of checks, including payroll distribution for the County Collects, receives, and processes payments in cash or check using a computer cashiering system Acts as backup to office receptionist, greeting and directing the general public and County staff Answers and routes telephone calls using discretion and tact Responds to general and complex questions and office complaints Receives, sorts, and distributes mail Monitors office equipment operation, troubleshoots failures, and requests repairs May supervise, lead, or train administrative or clerical support personnel Performs related duties as required Qualifications Graduation from High School or GED certificate Six months to one year of experience in accounting or auditing, or equivalent education‑experience combination Knowledge of basic accounting procedures Skill in operating a personal computer, scanner, and other office equipment Experience with Infor/Lawson (a plus) Proficiency in problem solving, decision making, and maintaining accurate records Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to establish effective relationships with coworkers, County employees, and the public Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance Must maintain an effective attendance record or pattern Must pass a pre‑employment physical and drug screen test May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek Physical Demands Working conditions are inside an office environment. Physical requirements include occasional lifting or carrying 10‑20 lbs. Visual acuity, speech, hearing, hand and eye coordination, and manual dexterity are necessary to operate a computer keyboard, 10‑key adding machine, and basic office equipment. Frequent communication with others is required. Activities include sitting, standing, walking, twisting, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending to perform essential functions.
