Account Representative

Location: Houston, TX (Initial onsite training required, then remote)

Schedule: Monday–Friday | Day Shift

Employment Type: Contract with potential for extension or permanent hire

About the Opportunity

A leading pediatric healthcare organization in the Houston area is seeking an experienced Account Representative to join its Revenue Cycle team. This position is ideal for candidates with experience in insurance claims follow-up, denials management, accounts receivable, and payer collections.

Following a successful onsite training period in Houston, this position will transition to a remote work schedule.

Responsibilities

• Contact insurance payers and guarantors by phone or online portals to verify claim status and collect outstanding accounts receivable.
• Research and resolve denied, underpaid, or unpaid professional claims.
• Submit and track insurance appeals while monitoring payer trends.
• Document all account activity, payer communications, and follow-up actions accurately.
• Review reimbursement to ensure payments and contractual adjustments are applied correctly.
• Analyze outstanding account balances and determine the appropriate next steps for resolution.
• Escalate complex accounts and reimbursement issues when appropriate.
• Work assigned claim follow-up queues and meet departmental productivity goals.
• Utilize payer portals, electronic fax systems, and other revenue cycle tools to resolve claims efficiently.
• Assist with special projects and support team initiatives as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum of 2 years of healthcare revenue cycle experience.
• Experience with insurance claim follow-up, accounts receivable, denials management, and collections.
• Professional claims experience preferred.
• Experience with Epic is preferred.
• Experience with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance payers preferred.
• Strong understanding of reimbursement methodologies, EOBs, contractual adjustments, and payer guidelines.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams).

Preferred Experience

• Physician services or hospital revenue cycle
• Professional claims (CMS-1500)
• Denials management and appeals
• Government and commercial payer follow-up
• Payer portals and electronic claim systems
• Work queues (Epic or similar EMR)
