Job Description

This role provides general labor and production support in a tire retread shop. You assist with retread operations by removing used tread from tires, preparing and applying new tread, and operating machinery and conveyor systems to process and bake semi-truck tires. You help ensure that tires are retreaded safely and efficiently while maintaining quality standards and supporting other production areas as needed.

Responsibilities

• Assist with general labor and production tasks in a tire retread shop.

• Remove used tread from tires using pneumatic tools in a safe and efficient manner.

• Measure and cut tire tread to the correct length according to specifications.

• Operate machinery that adheres new tread to wheels and ensure proper setup and operation.

• Use hoists to lift and maneuver large semi-truck tires onto "J" hooks attached to pulley and conveyor systems.

• Operate conveyor systems to transport tires into heating chambers for processing.

• Bake tires in ovens for designated cycles (approximately 4 hours) to break them down as part of the retread process.

• Unload tires from ovens using conveyor and pulley systems while following safety procedures.

• Inspect retreaded tires for quality, identifying defects and ensuring they meet standards.

• Use pneumatic buffing tools to finish tires and achieve proper surface quality.

• Assist with production tasks in other departments as needed to support workflow and throughput.

• Follow all safety guidelines when working around conveyors, hoists, ovens, and other production equipment.

• Maintain a clean and organized work area in a shop environment that handles used tires.

• Work regular scheduled hours from 4:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with availability to stay until 1:30 p.m. or 2:30 p.m. for overtime when required.

• Be open to working overtime, including 10-hour shifts and occasional Saturdays with advance notice.

Essential Skills

• Experience performing general labor in production, manufacturing, or warehouse environments.

• Ability to perform very physical work and stand on your feet for the entirety of the shift.

• Capability to frequently move and maneuver large tires using hoists, conveyors, and manual handling.

• Ability to push, pull, bend, and stoop repeatedly throughout the workday.

• Comfort using pneumatic tools such as tread removal tools and buffing tools.

• Ability to operate basic production machinery and conveyor systems safely.

• Willingness and availability to work overtime, including 10-hour shifts and Saturdays as needed.

• Reliability in adhering to an early morning schedule starting at 4:00 a.m., Monday through Friday.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous experience in tire services, retread operations, or similar industrial environments is beneficial.

• Experience in manufacturing or warehouse operations is a plus.

• Strong attention to detail when inspecting tires for quality and finishing work.

• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, physically demanding production setting.

• Comfort working in areas that may be dirty and loud due to used tires and operating equipment.

Work Environment

The work takes place in a tire retread shop that handles used semi-truck tires, so the environment can be a bit dirty and louder in some areas. You work around multiple conveyor systems transporting tires hung from hooks, as well as ovens and other production equipment in operation throughout the day. The role is highly physical, requiring you to stand for the entire shift and frequently push, pull, bend, and stoop while maneuvering large tires. Regular hours run from 4:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with potential overtime extending the day to 1:30 p.m. or 2:30 p.m. and occasional Saturday work with at least one week’s notice. Attire is typical for an industrial shop environment, with practical work clothing suitable for a dirty, noisy production setting and appropriate safety gear as required.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Portland, OR.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
