Bring your expertise in American Sign Language (ASL) into a school-based environment where you can have a real impact. A contract opportunity is available for a fluent ASL professional to serve as a dedicated 1:1 ASL Instructional Assistant for an elementary-aged student who is deaf/hard of hearing and has mild cognitive delays. In this rewarding position, you’ll provide both communication access and meaningful educational, social-emotional, and behavioral support, helping the student thrive in the classroom and beyond.

Key Qualifications:

• Fluent ASL skills—essential for this role
• Hands-on experience in schools or with special education students preferred
• Experience supporting students who are deaf/hard of hearing is advantageous
• EIPA or RID certification not required, but preferred
• Patient, positive, and encouraging presence
• Ability to collaborate with educators, clinicians, and the IEP team
• Committed to fostering communication, academic growth, and social-emotional well-being

Core Responsibilities:

• Provide consistent 1:1 support for an elementary student throughout the school day
• Facilitate access to instruction and routines with fluent ASL
• Deliver educational support beyond interpreting, including rephrasing, scaffolding, and promoting understanding
• Assist with transitions, engagement, sensory supports, and communication devices (AAC/communication boards)
• Encourage classroom participation and peer interaction
• Collaborate closely with teachers, DHH staff, and related service providers
• Offer a warm, inclusive, and supportive presence
