For more information about Oakland County benefits and employee perks, please visit: General Summary Compensation: $ 80,062 - $ 99,612 per year Performs nursing care activities for the juvenile residents of Children's Village. Performs health care assessments on assigned patients, observes the patient's condition, and reports any changes or reactions to medications or treatments. Documents observations on the patient's record and schedules and prepares patients for or assists in the administration of physical examinations. Responds to emergency situations, requiring travel between campus buildings. Utilizes current countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments. Minimum Qualifications EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Be licensed by the Michigan Board of Nursing to practice as a registered professional nurse in the State of Michigan. NOTE: Applicants who are eligible to be licensed by the State of Michigan and who meet the other requirements listed above may take this examination but will not be eligible for appointment until they have been licensed by or possess a valid permit from the Michigan Board of Nursing. Possess a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university. NOTE: Current Children’s Village Registered Nurse positions have twenty-four (24) months to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. Additional extension of time to earn the BSN degree can be given at the discretion of the Director of Health and Human Services. Have had at least two (2) years of full-time increasingly responsible public health, community nursing and/or correctional nursing work experience under professional nursing supervision. NOTE: A Master's Degree in Nursing, Public Health, Public Administration or closely related field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one (1) year of the public health nursing experience. Volunteer experience may be accepted provided it is equivalent in level and scope to the required experience. Possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s or chauffeur’s license. ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS Considerable knowledge of modern principles, methods, materials, practices and specialized terminology of public professional nursing service. Considerable ability to communicate under adverse conditions with distressed individuals and ability to make routine decisions in accordance with division policy and procedures. Considerable ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Children’s Village facility staff, Health Division professional and non-professional staff, volunteers, and the general public. Considerable ability to cope with difficult and/or emergency situations requiring immediate decisions in accordance with departmental policies and procedures. Reasonable ability to compile pertinent information and prepare and present oral or written technical reports to supervisors, staff, and the general public. Reasonable ability to exercise mature judgment and initiative in analyzing problems and recommending solutions. Completion of a certified medication course, desirable to administer medications and injections. Physical condition that will permit lifting, standing and/or walking for extended periods. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Must maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license. Must submit to immunizations as required by the Health Division and to periodic tuberculin skin tests or chest X-rays at County expense. Must maintain registration with the State of Michigan Board of Nursing. Candidates for positions assigned to Children’s Village will be required to provide documentation from the Michigan Department of Human Services that they have not been named in a central registry case as the perpetrator of child abuse or child neglect. In addition, applicants being considered for hire will be asked to sign a form authorizing a criminal history check in accordance with the privacy act of 1974. Applicants for positions assigned at Children’s Village will not be considered if they have been convicted of either of the following:; (a) Child Abuse or Neglect., (b) A felony involving harm or threatened harm to an individual within the 10 years immediately preceding the date of hire. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Completes an admission health assessment on clients, including obtaining blood and urine samples, and preparing patients as needed for physical examinations performed by the onsite medical providers. Maintains a health care record for patients who have been seen by an assigned medical provider such as a physician, physician assistant and/or nurse practitioner. Ensures records include information such as medications and treatments given, reactions, tests, and other pertinent data. Administers prescribed medications, immunizations and therapeutic treatments as ordered by the medical provider, observing, and referring significant reactions to treatments, may include distribution in housing areas. Maintains an inventory of supplies and medications and orders when necessary, according to procedures. Responds to and assesses emergency situations involving children and administers first aid as necessary. Transcribes to medical files and computer medical and pharmaceutical orders written or verbalized by physician. Delivers all level of nursing and health care to patients using the nursing process. May schedule and prepare patients for physical examinations to be performed by the attending physician. Utilizes current countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments. ADDITIONAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Assists supervisors with scheduling of clinics for nursing care services. Participates actively in in-service education committees for public health nursing professionals. MENTAL & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to communicate to accurately convey information. Ability to use typical medical clinic equipment and supplies. Ability to operate a motor vehicle and/or be a passenger. WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed in a typical medical clinic setting, in units throughout the Children’s Village campus. May come into contact with people who could become confrontational. May be required to travel to other locations during the course of work.
