Acute & Intermediate Med/Surg Clinical Nurse RN

Overview Barnes‑Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center offers RN positions in Inpatient Surgical, Acute Medicine, and Neurosciences units. Role Purpose Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation within nursing standards. Responsibilities Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and families on managing illness or injury, including post‑treatment home care and medication administration. Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance. Engages in professional development. Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with interprofessional team members and patients, families, or caregivers in accordance with guidelines and standards. Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care. Assesses patient preferences and barriers to involving them in care, including values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population‑specific needs. Maintains a safety‑sensitive state of alertness, ensuring work is performed safely.
