To perform a variety of tasks to help support the school bus driver in providing safe and proper transportation of all students to and from school and to assist, as needed, with in-class needs of students with disabilities.

Job Title: Hourly Aide With Bus Duties

Qualifications: 1. Minimally, high school diploma or GED 2. Demonstrate ability to assist with activities and to communicate effectively. 3. Awareness of diverse needs of children with disabilities. 4. Required criminal history check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status. 5. Willingness to participate in specialized training and duties. 6. Willingness to take direction from administrators, child study team.

Reports To: Principal and/or Director of Special Services

Job Goal: To perform a variety of tasks to help support the driver in providing safe and proper transportation of all students to and from school and to assist, as needed, with in-class needs of students with disabilities.

Performance Responsibilities

1. As required, assist with the supervision of students, ensuring that health and safety issues are addressed.

2. Know or be willing to be trained in the proper use of securing devices for safety restraints, wheelchairs and seat belts.

3. Assist the driver in the proper loading and unloading of passengers.

4. Maintain a clean and orderly environment.

5. Assist in handling interruptions and emergencies. Know or be willing to be trained the school bus evacuation procedures and be physically capable to evacuate students in emergency situations, administer first aid commensurate with training and experience.

6. As needed, assist children with preparing for and moving throughout the building, on school grounds.

7. Communicate to the teacher or principal any unusual situations or needs of students. Immediately advise appropriate school personnel of any evidence of substance abuse, child abuse, child neglect, severe medical conditions, potential suicide, or individuals appearing to be under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances.

8. As needed, use equipment and materials productively and safely.

9. In emergency situations, administer first aid commensurate with training and experience.

10. Display ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the school.

11. Protect confidentiality of records and information about students and staff, and use discretion when sharing any such information within legal confines.

12. Adhere to New Jersey school law, State Board of Education rules and regulations, Board of Education policies and regulations, school regulations and procedures, and contractual obligations.

13. Perform any duties and responsibilities that are within the scope of employment, as assigned by the teacher or principal, and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation.

Terms of Employment: Work year and contracted rate to be determined by the Board of Education.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with state law and the provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of non-certified staff.
