Diversion Specialist - Orange County

Salary: $52,000/year POSITION OBJECTIVE The Diversion Specialist manages a caseload of families served via Family Support Services (FSS) cases. The role provides in‑home services to children and families who are safe but could benefit from community services to prevent further involvement in the system of care. The Specialist oversees delivery and care coordination of services, makes referrals, provides community linkages, conducts child safety and family assessments, and performs 30‑day home visits (or more frequent as needed) for families served in Orange County. The position coordinates and facilitates Family Team Conferences and provides family stabilization support to children and families, working with caregivers, providers, DCF, and informal supports. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Provide specialized assistance to child welfare teams and the children and families in care. Coordinate planning strategies and maintain positive relationships with agencies and community members. Conduct home visits at least every 30 days or weekly as needed. Assist in the assessment of client behaviors and emotional needs to determine appropriate community services. Act as a liaison with DCF, case management, and the community. Attend staffing meetings (lockout staffings, MDT, LRT, and other community meetings as needed). Maintain positive relationships with other agencies and community members. Complete necessary file documentation and process data through FSFN and other required systems. Prepare documentation to identify prevention efforts. Attend and participate in monthly diversion meetings. Coordinate and attend diversion MDT staffing. Divert families from the dependency system. Support the CPI by providing services that keep children in their homes and manage service delivery with providers and community resources. Maintain monthly diversion logs and diversion tracking mechanisms. Enter information into FSFN and ensure family support pages are closed in a timely manner. Staff cases for diversion/prevention involvement or to implement safety services as needed. Be part of CPI initial consultations and 2nd tier staffing, and be available for impromptu staffing related to danger plans. Attach themselves to a CPI case needing prevention services and assist the CPI with gathering information from parents and other providers. Act as the conduit between providers and families, ensuring contact and engagement, and obtaining monthly documentation from providers for FSFN. Ensure that parents sign the FSS Acknowledgement forms upon initial contact. Complete funding authorization forms; supervise approval by Diversion Supervisor, Manager, and final sign‑off. Screen all referrals to community providers and programs. Maintain ongoing diversion tracking logs (weekly and as needed). Participate in the agency strategic plan and quality improvement processes. Perform essential job functions consistently with ADA, FMLA, and federal, state, and local standards, meeting productivity standards. Maintain regularly punctual attendance per ADA, FMLA, and local standards. Comply with all personnel policies and procedures. NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Duties in other counties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field of study. Related degrees: human services, criminology, juvenile justice, psychology, sociology, counseling, special education, education, human development, child development, family development, marriage and family therapy, nursing. 2 years’ experience in child welfare services. State of Florida Child Welfare Certification (CWCM). PREFERRED Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university. SKILLS REQUIRED Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Capable of completing assignments with minimal guidance. Ability to coach and mentor staff through complex issues. SPECIAL CONDITIONS Thorough background screening upon hire, including FBI, FDLE, local law check, employment reference check, DMV check, criminal records check, Social Security trace, and drug screening. FDLE check will be run at least every five years. Travel—local: 10% per week, long‑distance: 1% per month. Attend at least 15 hours of in‑service training annually.
