Senior Accountant

Sparks Group has partnered with a renowned local government authority seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to support a broad range of municipal financial operations, accounting activities, fiscal controls, and reporting functions within Tyler Munis ERP. This role will oversee key accounting processes, supervise assigned staff, support audits and financial reporting, and ensure compliance with applicable governmental accounting standards, policies, and regulations. Key Responsibilities

• Oversee daily accounting operations, including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, cash receipts, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, revenue collections, and financial reconciliations.
• Supervise and support accounting staff by coordinating daily assignments, providing training and guidance, monitoring work quality, and troubleshooting complex financial issues.
• Prepare and analyze financial reports and schedules, including audit workpapers, ACFR/AFR reporting, sales and use tax filings, fixed asset schedules, escrow and performance bond schedules, and other required reports.
• Support financial compliance and controls by interpreting governmental accounting requirements, reviewing transactions, assisting with audits, administering grants and forfeiture funds, and ensuring adherence to applicable laws and regulations.
• Coordinate banking, investment, and fiscal activities, including transfers, wires, bond payments, procurement approvals, fixed assets, escheat funds, and other financial operations while providing backup support across the Finance Department.

Key Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or a closely related field.
• Six (6) or more years of accounting experience, with a strong background in governmental, municipal, fund, or general accounting.
• Experience with financial controls and reconciliations, including general ledger, cash receipts, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting.
• Prior supervisory or team leadership experience, with the ability to coordinate workloads, train staff, resolve issues, and collaborate with internal departments and external stakeholders.
• Strong knowledge of governmental accounting standards and regulations, with proficiency in Microsoft Office and financial/accounting systems Tyler Munis experience strongly preferred
