Technical Designer (Kidswear)

Job Title: Technical Designer (Mid-Senior Level) - Children's Onsite 5 days a week - NYC Salary: $75K-$100K Base (DOE) Position Summary Technical Designer is responsible for ensuring the fit, construction, quality, and manufacturability of garments from development through production. This role partners closely with Design, Product Development, Sourcing, and Manufacturing to translate design intent into production-ready products that meet brand standards, cost targets, and timelines. The mid-Senior level Technical Designer brings strong technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage complex styles. Key Responsibilities Fit & Technical Execution Create and manage development from first fit through production approval. Conduct and manage fit sessions, providing clear and actionable feedback to the cross-functional team. Evaluate garment fit, balance, and construction. Approve or request pattern corrections to achieve consistent fit and sizing standards. Technical Specifications & Documentation Create, review, and maintain detailed technical packages, including specs, measurements, construction details, grading rules, and tolerances. Develop and update measurement charts and fit standards across categories. Ensure accurate and timely communication of technical comments to vendors and factories. Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with Design to interpret design intent while ensuring manufacturability and fit integrity. Collaborate with Product Development and Sourcing to meet cost, quality, and delivery goals. Communicate directly with overseas vendors to resolve fit and construction issues. Quality & Production Support Identify and proactively resolve fit, construction, or quality risks before bulk production. Review pre-production samples for technical approval. Support quality consistency from development through production. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design, Technical Design, or related field, or equivalent experience. 5-8+ years of apparel technical design experience. Strong knowledge of garment construction, patternmaking, grading, and fit across multiple categories. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Adobe Illustrator. Experience working with overseas factories and managing multiple styles simultaneously. Strong communication skills with the ability to give clear, concise technical direction.
