Shipping ClerkThe Shipping Clerk accurately sorts, packages, and processes customer orders while coordinating domestic truck and international shipments using both internal systems and carrier websites. This role ensures orders meet customer specifications, maintains high quality standards, and supports a fast-paced manufacturing and warehouse environment through careful handling of materials and proactive communication with customers and internal teams.ResponsibilitiesSort and package orders accurately according to customer specifications and company procedures.Apply established quality assurance principles to verify the accuracy and completeness of each order before shipment.Package and label orders in line with customer instructions, including any special labeling or documentation requirements.Arrange and process exception shipments that cannot be handled through the primary shipping system by using carrier websites on the internet.Process standard shipments using the Shiprite system as needed to ensure timely dispatch.Lift boxes of labels weighing up to 45 pounds repeatedly throughout the day and push or pull carts on wheels or pallets weighing between 75 and 150 pounds using a pallet jack.Return incomplete orders to the press department when there is an insufficient quantity of labels to fulfill the order.Modify orders in the OM Retrieve system when changes or corrections are required, ensuring all shipping details remain accurate.Contact customers directly to clarify shipping requirements or when customers prefer to arrange their own freight and shipping.Scan barcodes of orders entering the department to maintain accurate tracking and inventory records.Move packed boxes onto conveyor lines and/or load them directly onto pallets throughout the day.Use manual pallet jacks to move loads weighing up to 2,000 pounds safely and efficiently.Perform cycle counts and assist with inventory control activities as needed.Assist with general shipping and receiving tasks, including unloading, material handling, and warehouse inventory support.Utilize RF scanners, Microsoft Excel, SAP, and other computer systems to track shipments, update records, and support inventory accuracy.Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with company policies and procedures.Communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and customers to resolve issues and support smooth shipping operations.Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall efficiency of the shipping and warehouse operations.Essential SkillsHigh school diploma or equivalent.One or more years of relevant experience in shipping, receiving, warehouse, or inventory roles, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is preferred.Experience with shipping and receiving processes, including packaging, material handling, and warehouse inventory tasks.Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and to push or pull carts and pallets using manual pallet jacks.Comfort working in a fast-paced manufacturing and warehouse environment with frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, twisting, and reaching.General computer skills, including comfort with technology and basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.Ability to use shipping systems such as Shiprite and carrier websites (for example, FedEx and similar platforms) to process shipments.Experience with inventory control, cycle counts, warehouse inventory systems, and RF scanners.Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, written documents, and standard operating procedures.Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but straightforward written or oral instructions.Ability to handle problems involving concrete variables in sometimes complex situations.Strong written and verbal communication skills, including clear and professional phone and in-person communication.Exceptional attention to detail, with strong proofreading and grammar skills to ensure accurate documentation and labeling.Ability to handle conflict and manage customer expectations in a calm and professional manner.Reliable work habits and a strong work ethic, including consistent attendance and punctuality.Ability to juggle multiple tasks at a time while maintaining accuracy and quality.Comfort working with color vision tasks, grasping, reaching, and sitting or standing for prolonged periods as required.Prior customer service experience is helpful for managing customer communications and shipping inquiries.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience with FedEx and other major carrier platforms for processing shipments.Prior exposure to SAP or similar enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.Experience in a manufacturing environment, particularly one involving labels, printing, or similar products.Technical printing knowledge is considered a plus.Call center or customer-facing experience that demonstrates strong communication and problem-solving abilities.Proficiency with Excel data entry and general Microsoft Office applications.Comfort working with warehouse inventory tools, RF scanners, and related technology.Charismatic and dynamic communication style in person and over the phone.Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.Strong organizational You will constantly walk, stand, grasp, reach, push, pull, bend, stoop, twist, and use manual dexterity for prolonged periods of time. You will regularly use color vision and will need to hear and speak clearly to communicate with coworkers and customers. The position requires regularly carrying and lifting up to 50 pounds and using manual pallet jacks to move loads up to 2,000 pounds. The environment is fast-paced and physically active, with frequent handling of boxes, labels, pallets, and carts. Standard shifts include a Monday–Friday 4:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. schedule and a Monday–Thursday 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. schedule, and you must be able to train on the Monday–Thursday day shift for approximately four weeks regardless of your assigned shift. The role involves frequent use of computers, shipping systems, RF scanners, and inventory tools in a production area where safety, organization, and teamwork are essential.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of New Albany, IN.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.00 - $19.00/hr.Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
