Medical Technologist I

JOB DUTIES:

• Performs and completes all tests according to departmental procedure manuals within established turnaround times; prioritizes tasks appropriately.
• Handles specimens according to departmental guidelines including unacceptable specimens and specimens for transport to reference labs.
• Records and reports testing data according to department guidelines.
• Performs and records required quality assurance/control data, recognizes outliers and takes corrective action as necessary
• Performs and reports proficiency tests as assigned
• Observes and abides by all mandated safety policies in performing duties.
• Performs instrument troubleshooting, repairs and maintenance as required and/or assigned.
• Observes reagent and supply inventories, including expiration dates and reports re-order needs to the supervisor or person responsible for supply ordering.
• Performs phlebotomy duties as needed.
• Performs specimen triage duties as needed
• Demonstrates initiative and makes good decisions in situations not covered by policies.
• Accepts and delivers constructive criticism in a positive manner.
• Interacts with and assists with training of students in the laboratory.
