Property Accountant – Real Estate Portfolio Location: Greater Madison Area, WI Work Arrangement: Full-Time | On-Site Compensation: Up to $90,000 annually, with flexibility for exceptional candidates Take Ownership of a Real Estate Portfolio Are you an accountant who enjoys seeing the full financial picture—not just completing individual transactions? Our client, an established and growing real estate organization in the Madison area, is seeking a Property Accountant to take ownership of the accounting and financial reporting for an assigned portfolio of properties. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accountant who wants greater responsibility, exposure to leadership, and a meaningful role in the financial performance of multiple real estate assets. You’ll manage the complete accounting cycle for your portfolio while partnering closely with property operations and other members of the finance team. What You’ll Do Prepare monthly financial statements for assigned properties, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements Manage month-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, allocations, account reconciliations, and supporting workpapers Maintain accurate general ledger activity across multiple properties or business entities Review property operating results and investigate significant budget-to-actual variances Provide clear financial insights and recommendations to property operations and company leadership Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting for lenders, investors, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders Monitor property cash balances and coordinate payments and disbursements with the Accounts Payable team Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules Research and resolve accounting discrepancies and financial reporting questions Support annual audits by preparing schedules, workpapers, and requested documentation Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies Identify opportunities to improve reporting, processes, controls, and overall financial accuracy Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and special accounting projects as needed What We’re Looking For At least three years of professional accounting experience Experience preparing financial statements and completing month-end close Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, journal entries, and GAAP Ability to manage multiple entities, properties, deadlines, or competing priorities Strong Excel skills and experience working with accounting or ERP systems Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability Ability to communicate financial information clearly to both accounting and operational partners Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred, but relevant experience will also be considered Experience That Will Help You Stand Out Property accounting, real estate accounting, or property management industry experience Experience supporting multifamily, commercial, affordable housing, or mixed-use properties Multi-property or multi-entity accounting experience Experience with Yardi, MRI, RealPage, Entrata, or comparable accounting software Budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis experience Reporting experience involving lenders, investors, or regulatory agencies CPA, CMA, or progress toward a professional accounting certification Compensation and Benefits Salary up to $90,000 annually, based on experience Candidates with especially strong qualifications and slightly higher compensation expectations are encouraged to apply Comprehensive benefits package 401(k) with company contribution Paid time off and paid holidays Professional development and certification support Long-term advancement opportunities within a stable and growing organization Why Consider This Opportunity?
