Registered Nurse ICU

Job Summary:


The Registered Nurse in the ICU is responsible for providing advanced nursing care to critically ill patients in a short-term acute care setting. This role requires expertise in cardiovascular intensive care, managing patient assessments, medication administration, treatment planning, and collaborating closely with the interdisciplinary team. The nurse will float between units as needed, delivering high-quality care with a focus on patient safety and recovery in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

• Provide skilled nursing care to critically ill patients in the Cardiovascular ICU and other units as assigned.
• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.
• Administer medications and therapies according to physician orders and protocols.
• Monitor patient condition continuously, including vital signs and cardiac status, and respond to changes promptly.
• Collaborate effectively with physicians, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the Epic electronic health record system.
• Adhere to infection control practices and hospital policies to ensure patient and staff safety.
• Participate in patient and family education regarding care plans and procedures.
• Support unit operations by floating between ICU and other units as required.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license in the state of employment.
• Minimum of 2 years experience in ICU nursing, preferably with cardiovascular ICU expertise.
• Strong clinical assessment, medication administration, and critical care skills.
• Proficiency in electronic health record systems, preferably Epic.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interdisciplinary collaboration.
• Bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience in Level II Trauma Center or teaching hospital environments.
• Certification in critical care nursing (CCRN) or related specialty.
• Familiarity with hospital protocols for 1:1 and 1:2 patient ratios in ICU settings.

Special Considerations:

• Float between units as needed to support patient care demands.
• No on-call duties required.
• Cardiovascular ICU experience is mandatory.
• Expected patient-to-nurse ratios of 1:1 and 1:2.
• Work environment includes a Level II Trauma Center and Pediatric Trauma Center.

Scheduling:

• Block scheduling is required.
• Work every other weekend.
• Shifts may include days, evenings, or nights as assigned based on unit needs.
