ODH is seeking to fill a Senior Health Physicist position within the Bureau of Environmental Health and Radiation Protection (BEHRP). This position will perform complex and non-repetitive evaluation of production, use, release, disposal and/or presence of radioactive material in environment, nuclear facilities, or ionizing radiation from any device or equipment that emits or is capable of producing radiation.This position will:Review work of lower level health physicists and/or non-state inspectors who are working with the evaluation of machine-produced sources of ionizing radiation to ensure compliance and conformance with criteria, standards, policies, objectives, procedures and evaluation methods of the program (i.e., program procedure manuals, Ohio Revised Code [ORC] Section 3748.01 to 3748.99, associated rules of the Ohio Administrative Code [OAC], Standards of the National Council on Radiation Protection [NCRP], Conference of Radiation Control Program Directors, Inc. & American National Standards Institute [ANSI], & Code of Federal Regulations [CFR] Title 21)Act as team leader of special projects, hospital inspections, emergency inspections and investigationsPerform field measurements of radiation exposureOrganize, evaluate, and analyze measurement results of accuracy, trends, and consistencyOperate various radiation measurement equipment and quality control tools to evaluate radiation produced from machinesCoordinate data collection and provides quality control for data management aspects of investigation and evaluationsConduct special projects and provide program support related to radiologic health programLocation Requirements: Position is headquartered in downtown Columbus, Ohio (Franklin County). Vacancy is for West Central Ohio, and work will be assigned in the following counties (Adams, Brown, Butler, Clermont, Clinton, Fayette, Hamilton, Highland, Jackson, Lawrence, Logan, Madison, Pickaway, Pike, Ross, Scioto, Shelby, Darke, Miami, Champaign, Clark, Preble, Montgomery, Greene and Warren).Normal working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This is an hourly position, with a pay range of 33 on the OCSEA Pay Range Schedule. Unless required by legislation, the selected candidate will begin at Pay Grade 33, Step 1 of the union (OCSEA) Pay Range Schedule ($34.53 per hour), with an opportunity for pay increase after six months ($36.20 per hour) of satisfactory performance and then a yearly raise thereafter.Application Procedures: We only accept applications submitted online through this portal (careers.ohio.gov).
