Quality InspectorThe Quality Inspector validates materials and shipments to ensure they meet space-flight quality standards. This role performs detailed in-process and final inspections across receiving, manufacturing, and integration, focusing on both electrical and mechanical components at piece-part, assembly, and sub-assembly levels. The position supports quality assurance activities, documentation review, and continuous improvement within a highly regulated aerospace environment.ResponsibilitiesPerform detailed inspections of electrical and mechanical components at the piece-part, assembly, and sub-assembly levels to verify compliance with space-flight quality standards.Conduct in-process and final inspections in receiving, manufacturing, and integration areas to ensure products meet specified requirements.Inspect circuit card assemblies under magnification in accordance with NASA 8739 or IPC workmanship standards.Perform inspections on box-level assemblies and support environmental testing to confirm acceptable quality standards and workmanship practices.Carry out in-process and final inspections on cable and wire harnesses, including thorough review of associated product build documentation.Uphold quality standards and workmanship practices in assigned work centers by learning and following process specifications and applying quality workmanship during daily tasks.Generate nonconformance reports (NCRs) for discrepancies discovered during inspection processes, ensuring accurate defect descriptions and coding selections.Review nonconformities and provide feedback to NCR authors on coding, defect descriptions, and other key attributes, and offer insights to review boards (PMRB, MRB, FRB) to support disposition and root cause and corrective action (RCCA).Perform audits of work areas to ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and AS 9100 procedures and Lean Manufacturing principles.Conduct in-depth reviews of product build documentation for configuration audits to determine whether as-built configurations meet as-designed requirements.Act as a safety representative during critical and hazardous operations, promoting safe practices and adherence to safety protocols.Assist in developing training materials for the quality assurance (QA) group to support consistent inspection practices and standards.Develop training material for the assigned QA group and maintain documentation that supports onboarding and ongoing skills development.Train and mentor new hires or less-experienced personnel in at least one skill identified on the skills matrix for the assigned area of work.Use micrometers and other inspection tools to verify dimensions and tolerances on inspected components and assemblies.Utilize Microsoft applications and other computer programs to complete inspection reports, documentation reviews, and audit records.Perform other duties as assigned to support overall quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives.Essential SkillsMinimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.At least 2 years of experience in manufacturing or inspection of electronic components or assemblies.Proven experience performing quality inspections on electrical and mechanical components at piece-part, assembly, and sub-assembly levels.Ability to read and interpret engineering documentation, including drawings, parts lists, inspection plans, and supplemental instructions.Strong blueprint reading skills for both mechanical and electrical components.Hands-on experience with quality inspection in aerospace or similar high-reliability industries.Knowledge of and ability to inspect to NASA 8739 or IPC workmanship standards for circuit card assemblies.Familiarity with ISO 9001 and AS 9100 quality management systems and procedures.Ability to generate and review nonconformance reports and accurately document defects and discrepancies.Competence in conducting audits of work areas for compliance with established procedures and lean manufacturing principles.Proficiency with Microsoft applications and the ability to learn new computer programs and applications quickly.Ability to use micrometers and other precision measurement tools for inspection tasks.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience performing final inspection and final assembly checks in a manufacturing or aerospace environment.Experience in NASA aerospace quality standards and practices.Exposure to Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.Experience supporting review boards such as PMRB, MRB, or FRB with technical input on nonconformities and corrective actions.Ability to develop training materials and documentation for quality assurance teams.Experience training and mentoring new or less-experienced inspectors.Strong attention to detail and ability to work under magnification for extended periods when inspecting circuit card assemblies.Effective communication skills for collaborating with production, engineering, and quality teams.Comfort working with laptops and digital work instructions in a production or clean room setting.Why Work Here?Join a team that is dedicated to delivering high-reliability products for space-flight applications within a structured, quality-focused environment. Operations follow ISO 9001 and AS 9100 procedures and Lean Manufacturing principles, with a strong emphasis on safety during critical and hazardous activities. Attire is consistent with clean room and controlled manufacturing standards to maintain product integrity and cleanliness.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chantilly, VA.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $32.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
