Job Description
The Packaging Technician assembles, labels, and inspects clinical pharmaceutical supplies to ensure they meet strict quality and regulatory standards. This temporary role follows detailed batch records, standard operating procedures, and supervisory instructions to package products such as syringes, bottles, and cases for clinical studies. The position suits individuals who can perform most phases of clinical packaging independently while still receiving guidance in some areas.

Work Environment
This role is based in a pharmaceutical packaging department within a clean room environment. Team members work on either first shift (approximately 6:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., Monday through Friday *currently no openings*) or Second shift (approximately 2:45 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., Monday through Thursday), with frequent overtime shifts that may run around 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Fridays. Overtime is currently mandatory, typically in 6-hour blocks, and may include 4-5 extra days per month on Fridays or Saturdays, with an occasional Sunday depending on production needs. The position requires full clean room gowning at all times, including full gown, shoe covers, hairnet, beard net if applicable, and safety glasses; prescription safety glasses are not provided. Some work occurs in a cold room environment maintained at approximately 35-46°F, with appropriate cold-weather personal protective equipment supplied and an additional pay premium for all hours worked in the cold room. The work involves standing, performing repetitive tasks on production and assembly lines, and interacting regularly with production operations, engineering, inventory, and quality assurance teams, as well as occasional observation by client personnel.

Job Description

Responsibilities
- Review batch records and written instructions to understand and follow all packaging procedures for each clinical study.
- Package and label syringes, bottles, boxes, and cases according to specified protocols and customer requirements.
- Clean packaging rooms, equipment, and machinery as needed to maintain a compliant clean room environment.
- Perform manual and automated filling and packaging of bottled pharmaceutical products while independently monitoring and approving labeling and process quality.
- Operate various sealing and packaging machinery to ensure proper labeling, drug placement, and secure closure of packages.
- Assemble clinical supplies and apply labels accurately, ensuring correct placement and legibility.
- Accurately count, prepare, and package pill bottles, syringe packs, and other components to meet precise quantity and configuration requirements.
- Conduct final checks on in-process and finished products to verify correct labeling, counts, and packaging quality before boxing.
- Pack finished goods into appropriately labeled containers and boxes for storage or shipment.
- Assist with staging, counting, and reconciliation of components and materials to support accurate inventory and production records.
- Work effectively on assembly and production lines, supporting general production, packing, and material handling tasks as needed.
- Follow good manufacturing practices and all standard operating procedures to ensure product quality and regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate with production operations, engineering, inventory, and quality assurance personnel, and interact professionally with client representatives observing packaging operations.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Strong attention to detail, especially in labeling and packaging, with an understanding that quality errors in this environment can have serious consequences.
- Ability and willingness to work in a cold room environment (approximately 35-46°F) for up to about 10 hours per week, with provided personal protective equipment.
- Willingness and ability to work mandatory overtime as needed based on production demands.
- Clear, legible handwriting suitable for documenting information such as good manufacturing practices, signatures, and initials on production records.
- Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions and standard operating procedures.
- Comfort working in a clean room environment with strict gowning and cleanliness requirements.
- Capability to perform repetitive tasks such as counting, labeling, filling, and packing with consistent accuracy.
- Basic familiarity with general production or warehouse tasks such as assembly line work, packing, order picking, and material handling.
- Previous manufacturing or production experience, particularly in a goal-driven environment.
- Warehouse experience, including picking, packing, inventory handling, and use of RF scanners.
- Experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing, clinical packaging, or a clean room environment.
- Experience in quality, inspection, or general production line work.
- Experience with filling, labeling, and packaging operations in a regulated environment.
- Tenure and reliability in prior roles, including fast food or retail, demonstrating strong work ethic and consistency.
