Position Overview:
The Group Leader is responsible for leading a group of students during aftercare, ensuring a safe, engaging, and structured environment. This role focuses on daily program execution, including enrichment, homework support, and structured activities, while building positive relationships with students. Group Leaders bring The Future Stars programming to life through consistency, active engagement, and strong classroom management.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Student Supervision & Safety

• Maintain active supervision of assigned group at all times, ensuring student safety and well-being.
• Follow all safety protocols, including attendance tracking, transitions, and dismissal procedures.
• Administer basic first aid as needed and report any injuries or incidents promptly.

2. Program Implementation

• Lead and facilitate daily aftercare activities, including enrichment, homework support, and structured play.
• Follow provided lesson plans and curriculum to ensure consistency and quality across the program.
• Create an engaging and inclusive environment where all students feel supported and encouraged to participate.

3. Behavior Management

• Implement program expectations and behavior management strategies consistently.
• Address Tier 1 and Tier 2 behavioral concerns using proactive and positive strategies.
• Communicate ongoing or escalated concerns to the Assistant Site Director or Site Director.

4. Classroom Environment & Engagement

• Maintain a structured, organized, and positive classroom environment.
• Build strong relationships with students to support engagement, confidence, and social development.
• Encourage teamwork, respect, and positive peer interactions.

5. Communication & Reporting

• Communicate effectively with site leadership regarding student needs, concerns, or incidents.
• Support documentation of incidents as directed by leadership.
• Maintain professionalism when interacting with families during dismissal.

6. Team Collaboration & Support

• Collaborate with other Group Leaders and site staff to ensure smooth daily operations.
• Assist with transitions, coverage, and shared responsibilities across the site.
• Participate in trainings, meetings, and professional development as required.

• Arrive on time and prepared to actively engage with students
• Maintain a high level of energy, professionalism, and accountability
• Actively supervise rather than passively monitor students
• Follow program structure and expectations consistently

Qualifications:

• Experience working with children in an educational, childcare, or camp setting preferred
• Strong classroom management and communication skills
• Ability to lead activities and engage groups of students
• Reliable, punctual, and team-oriented
• CPR/First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)

Education & Credential Requirements (DC OSSE-Aligned):
Candidates must meet one of the following:

• Associate’s degree or higher in early childhood education, child development, child and family studies, or a related field; OR
• Associate’s degree in another field with at least 24 credit hours in early childhood-related coursework and 1 year of supervised experience in a licensed child development setting; OR
• Minimum of 48 college credit hours (including 15 in early childhood-related coursework) and 2 years of supervised experience; OR
• High school diploma (or equivalent) with a valid Child Development Associate (CDA) credential
