Labor Relations Coordinator

Job Summary

Uses professional labor relations concepts and applies organization policies and procedures to resolve a variety of labor / union-related issues. Works on labor relations issues that are moderate in scope and complexity. Has both internal and external contacts. Normally receives direction and some oversight in addressing assigned labor relations issues.

Department Summary

The Labor and Employee Relations Unit supports the organization by fostering effective labor-management relationships and promoting fair, consistent employee relations practices. The unit provides guidance on collective bargaining agreements, workplace policies, and employee relations matters; administers grievance and complaint processes; supports dispute resolution; and ensures compliance with applicable laws and organizational standards. The team operates in a fast-paced, high-volume environment that requires accuracy, responsiveness, collaboration, and strong attention to detail.

Required

• Bachelor's degree and / or equivalent experience / training
• Minimum 1–2 years of related experience including experience in labor relations, employee relations, human resources, legal/paralegal support, or a similar administrative or analytical role
• Demonstrated experience working in a high-volume, fast-paced environment requiring strong organization and attention to detail
• Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to accurately track, document, and manage multiple labor and employee relations cases
• Ability to triage emails, RFIs, and inquiries and route labor and employee relations matters to appropriate stakeholders
• Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize competing deadlines
• Demonstrated analytical skills to review information, identify issues, and support recommendations within established guidelines
• Knowledge of other areas of human resources. Knowledge of organizational policies, procedures, and employee relations processes
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including drafting professional correspondence.
• Proficiency with databases, case management systems, and standard office software (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook)
Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to handle difficult or volatile situations / individuals effectively. Ability to learn quickly, adapt to changing priorities, and work flexibly in a fast-paced environment

Preferred

• Paralegal certificate or formal paralegal training
• Experience supporting labor relations and/or employee relations in a unionized or public-sector environment
• Experience working with HR, labor relations, or case management systems
• Knowledge of collective bargaining agreements and labor relations principles
• Knowledge of employee relations practices, including complaint and grievance support
• Knowledge of basic labor and employment law concepts

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF.
