Brehmer Law Firm, LLC, an established civil litigation firm in Columbia, South Carolina, is looking for a certified Litigation Paralegal to join our practice.

The Litigation Paralegal works very closely with attorneys across a mixed docket of insurance defense, personal injury, subrogation, and construction defect matters. The paralegal manages case files from intake through resolution, assisting with discovery, deposition and witness preparation, and research. The paralegal is typically the one who prepares and handles all exhibits, and will also act as an assistant to the attorney during hearings and court proceedings. Once the case resolves, the Litigation Paralegal is responsible for closing out the case documents.

** Education Requirements **

• ABA-approved paralegal certification with a focus on litigation

• Minimum of two years of civil litigation experience

** Litigation Paralegal Essential Skills **

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• High attention to detail

• Resourceful research and analytical skills

• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and tasks across a high-volume docket

• Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook and Word

• Working knowledge of the South Carolina Rules of Civil Procedure

** Litigation Paralegal Roles & Responsibilities **

• Compile and prepare draft discovery responses.

• Categorize and interpret data; review and analyze reports, responses and records produced by opposing counsel.

• Subpoena medical records and prepare medical chronologies.

• Coordinate requests between multiple parties involved in litigation by way of consistent communication with client, claims and full partnership with attorney through end of case.

** Day-to-Day Duties **

• Prepare, organize, and file documents and correspondence.

• Draft correspondence and pleadings for attorney review.

• Organize and maintain client files, including electronic files in Clio.

• Update and maintain internal databases.

• Prepare materials for case preparation.

• Organize relevant documents for attorney review and case preparation.

• Prepare for depositions.

• Prepare and organize exhibits for depositions, hearings, and trial.

• Prepare and file all court documents, including e-filing in South Carolina state courts and federal CM/ECF.

• Maintain the litigation calendar and docket deadlines under state and federal rules.

• Coordinate attorneys' appointments, hearings, depositions, and mediations.

• Assist attorneys with trial preparation.
