Elementary Lunchroom Manager

Job Summary Under general supervision, manages the operations of elementary or high school lunchrooms in compliance with departmental guidelines. Manages day‑to‑day food service activities and ensures delivery of nutritious, appealing meals to students. Candidates must provide proof of a valid sanitation license or a passing grade from a class or program while awaiting the City of Chicago certificate. Responsibilities Supervise lunchroom personnel and participate in the preparation of food items. Ensure food is prepared according to menu, recipes, and production records in accordance with nutrition guidelines and HACCP standards. Follow all accountability processes in line with NSLP, ISBE and Nutrition Support Services guidelines. Complete required paperwork accurately, including POS, Mosaic, Websmart, deposit slips, production records, cook’s temperature logs, line temperature logs, food delivery records, and refrigeration temperature logs. Follow cash‑handling policies and procedures with integrity and accuracy. Accurately forecast food needs to prevent shortages or overproduction. Conduct daily meetings and monthly food‑service training sessions with staff. Prepare a work schedule for all employees. Complete an accurate inventory using the appropriate format within the allotted time frame. Order accurately based on inventory levels and menu. Ensure deliveries are correct. Document discipline issues immediately. Attend all scheduled meetings, workshops, and training. Maintain regular attendance and punctuality. Supervise and participate in all detail cleaning. Handle all types of food, including pre‑prepared and raw. Complete all tasks designated for the daily success of the food‑service operation. Assist with completing daily tasks required in any vacant position, including but not limited to cook. Other Functions That May Be Required Wash pots, pans, and sheet trays. Clean equipment and facilities. Serve food. Sweep and mop floors. Vacuum all food‑service‑related areas. Wash walls and clean all food‑service equipment. Wipe tables and restock for the following day. Perform any other duties assigned to meet nutrition and meal requirements and ensure an efficient work environment. Assist with piloting or implementing new programs within the scope of the food‑service operation. Qualifications Training and Experience / Education High School Diploma, GED or equivalent. Certificate Requirements Must possess a valid Chicago Department of Public Health Certified Food Service Manager Certificate. Physical and Other Requirements Require lifting or exerting force of 25 lbs frequently and 50 lbs occasionally. Must be able to stand for long periods, stoop, climb, bend, reach, handle and manipulate objects. Must be able to taste, smell and see to identify odors and distinguish colors. Must tolerate environments with some temperature extremes. No light duty in Nutrition Support Services. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Understanding and caring attitude toward students, with availability to serve them politely and professionally. Effective written and verbal communication with staff, students, faculty, administrators, and supervisors. Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and fractions.
