By these means, we seek to restore all to unity with God and each other in Christ.” About the Delaware Deanery The Delaware Deanery, which the Rector of Trinity, Swarthmore, currently serves as dean, is one of 10 regional deaneries within the diocese. It comprises 16 Episcopal parishes and one mission within Delaware County, PA. The Youth and Family Ministries Collaboration is being developed alongside the diocesan-led EPIC (Episcopal Parishes In Collaboration) initiative to bring parishes into collaborative management with sharing of information and resources. Both Swarthmore and the county hub of Media are about 30 minutes by commuter train from downtown Philadelphia. Position Summary This position combines a half-time commitment to Trinity Church, Swarthmore, and a further commitment to collaborative Youth and Family Ministries across the Delaware Deanery. For Trinity , the priest will serve as Assistant Rector for Children, Youth and Family Ministries, bringing theological and liturgical expertise as well as a desire to be in the lives of children, youth, and their families. The Assistant Rector provides clergy leadership for all children and youth ministries as related to Christian formation in educational and liturgical settings, and will be invited to join in the rotation of preaching at services. For the Deanery , the priest will work with local clergy and laity to foster spiritual growth for middle- and high-school-aged youth through liturgical, educational, and outreach opportunities that span parish boundaries. The priest will develop non-Sunday morning liturgy, educational programming, and activities with an emphasis on outreach. Deliverables — Trinity Church Foster spiritual growth and discipleship among children and youth by leading age-appropriate worship and formation classes on Sunday mornings Oversee and support the work of the Coordinator for Children’s Ministries Support the integration of youth into parish life as full members — including Acolytes and Youth Choir Develop and nurture volunteer teams of adults Maintain a visible presence at parish and community events involving young people Build relationships with families, offering pastoral support in collaboration with the rector Preach and preside in rotation with the rector and other priests, as time and scheduling permit Deliverables — Delaware Deanery Develop and lead at least one intergenerational worship event per month, apart from Sunday mornings, rotating across different deanery locations Organize and lead at least one intergenerational outreach event per month — connecting youth with existing deanery outreach or launching new initiatives Lead yearly Confirmation preparation for deanery youth, including a class series of at least eight sessions and a pre-confirmation retreat Organize and lead a yearly mission trip or pilgrimage for youth Serve as consulting resource for Children’s Ministries programs among deanery parishes Education & Experience Master’s in Divinity (M.Div.) or equivalent (e.g., Master’s in Theology plus “reading for orders”) 3–5+ years demonstrated success in leading and growing faith‑based programs for children and youth (Middle & High School focused) Hands‑on experience with youth leadership, volunteer program development, pastoral care, and collaborative ministry coordination Ordained Episcopal priest in good standing or candidate for Holy Orders Proven record of building relationships and fostering spiritual growth within the Episcopal tradition Salary & Benefits Compensation begins at the diocesan minimum for a full‑time assistant rector Housing and utilities (electricity, gas, water, trash) provided in a newly and completely renovated home at 307 N. Chester Rd. — constitutes part of compensation Health (individual) and disability insurance Payment into clergy pension plan at 18 % of compensation (or 9 % for a layperson) Professional mileage reimbursement Housing Included A newly and completely renovated home at 307 N. Work primarily occurs within churches and parish facilities, with daily interaction with children and youth, congregation members, volunteers, and staff. Duties may extend to hospitals, schools, community centers, and parishioners’ homes. Schedule will require non‑traditional hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays to accommodate youth programming, worship services, and pastoral care needs.
