Manager, Pipeline & Renewable Investment

The Pipeline & Renewable Investments organization is positioned within the Corporate Strategy group at Southern Company Gas (“GAS”) and provides strategic leadership across the GAS enterprise. The Manager, Pipeline & Renewable Investments will manage the evaluation, development, and execution of the Company’s interstate, FERC regulated pipeline investment portfolio—ensuring alignment with business priorities, system needs, and regulatory frameworks.This role partners closely with pipeline and renewable investment analysts and cross‑functional subject matter experts to advance a portfolio of pipeline investment opportunities from early screening through internal and external approvals and implementation. The Manager will maintain project governance, coordinate risk mitigation, and drive execution readiness—including scope definition, cost estimating, schedule management, constructability considerations, and operational readiness. Where applicable, the role will also support RNG investments, including the development, evaluation, and execution of RNG projects including operational facilities and interconnections. From time to time, this role may also support special projects.JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESManage the development, evaluation, and execution of pipeline investment initiatives.Own portfolio management, reporting, and performance tracking for the company’s pipeline investments, including schedules, budgets, risks, and benefits realization.Coordinate with internal stakeholders (e.g., System Planning, Gas Operations, Engineering, Construction, Finance, Regulatory, Legal, etc.) to screen, prioritize, and evaluate pipeline capital projects, including operational impacts, constructability, and execution considerations.Support the evaluation of pipeline investment opportunities, including scope definition, cost estimates, risk identification, economic analysis, and alignment with long‑term system planning and GAS strategy.Serve as the internal project coordinator for pipeline investment evaluations and execution readiness, coordinating technical, commercial, and regulatory workstreams from diligence through implementation.Following program or investment approval, coordinate implementation efforts to ensure on time, on budget delivery and successful operational integration.Work cross functionally to produce, manage, and track monthly and ad hoc reports related to program performance, capital spend, project milestones, risks, and benefits realization.Communicate effectively across the enterprise on program strategy, pipeline investment priorities, and execution status, tailoring messaging for external stakeholders, employees, and senior leadership.Research and communicate market, regulatory, and infrastructure development trends to inform pipeline investment strategies.Support RNG investment opportunities, including evaluation and due diligence of new projects, and supporting existing RNG investments from time to time.Support special projects as required from time to time. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ATTRIBUTESDemonstrated project management experience, strong interpersonal skills, and high attention to detail.Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects, and stakeholders simultaneously.Proven analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate technical, commercial, regulatory, and financial considerations.Experience interacting effectively with joint venture partners, project developers, pipeline counterparties, and internal stakeholders.Understanding of program cost accounting, capital investment analysis, and economic evaluation.Experience in contract analysis and management, including negotiation and administration of complex commercial agreements.Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to develop clear, executive level summaries and reports.Ability to motivate cross-functional teams, stimulate ideas, and work collaboratively across functions.Strong commitment to quality, accuracy, timeliness, and continuous improvement.Travel in state and nationally is required.JOB REQUIREMENTSBachelor’s degree in finance, economics, engineering, mathematics, accounting, or related field; advanced degree is a plusExperience in one or more of the following areas: investment analysis, corporate finance, capital budgeting, project/portfolio reporting, transaction support, strategic planning, or project managementUnderstanding of interstate, FERC-regulated pipeline investments and key drivers (e.g., tariffs, contracts, throughput, cost estimating, schedule considerations, and risk factors)Experience with contract analysis, commercial agreement support, and/or coordination of diligence workstreams (technical, commercial, regulatory, and financial) is a plusHigh attention to detail with a commitment to quality, accuracy, timeliness, and continuous improvement; able to work effectively both independently and as part of a teamStrong expertise in Microsoft applications (especially Excel and PowerPoint) including financial/economic analysis, sensitivity/scenario analysis, and development of clear, executive-level summaries and reportsAbility to travel in-state and nationally as needed and to visit operating assets and project sites (e.g., pipeline facilities, compressor stations), which may be outside in rough or uneven terrainDisclaimer: This information describes the general nature and level of work performed by employees in this job.
