Job Title Instrument Test Technician Location San Jose, CA Employment Type Contract on W2 (U.S. Citizens, Green Card Holders, EAD, OPT, CPT) Shift 1st Shift: 6:00 am – 2:30 pm or 7:00 am – 3:30 pm Duration 12 months Job Description This role conducts production testing of assembled flow cytometers and related medical device products. The technician integrates systems and performs a range of electronic, mechanical, optical, fluidic and electromechanical activities on systems, subassemblies, and parts to ensure units function per specifications. Responsibilities include system‑ and subassembly‑level troubleshooting to determine root causes and implement corrections, producing quality products on schedule, and working in a team‑oriented environment with assemblers, technicians, QA personnel, and engineers. Duties and Responsibilities Performs instrument optimization functions after final assembly: laser alignment, pressure adjustments, electrical adjustments, etc. Conducts final production testing and inspection to ensure products meet performance specifications and standards. Analyzes test results on defective units to determine root cause of failure. Replaces or repairs defective components or assemblies, processes proper paperwork, and may return units to assembly for repair. Compares test results with specifications, records test data, and generates required documentation for the Device History Record (DHR). Collaborates with engineers, technicians, production personnel and others to resolve testing procedures and results, developing troubleshooting techniques. Provides feedback on production and test methods, product design issues, and strives to improve product quality and operational efficiency. Supports project teams focused on quality improvement, cost reduction, cycle‑time reduction, reliability improvement, operational efficiency, or new product introduction. Assists in creating and updating process and product documentation. Makes sure the work area is clean, organized and safe. Fills out timesheets and all required paperwork accurately and on time, keeping training files up to date. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Associate’s degree (A.S.) or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school. 3+ years of related experience in a high‑tech manufacturing environment. Experience working in a medical device manufacturing organization. Experience testing and troubleshooting: laser‑based optical systems, fluidic systems, digital and analog circuitry. Knowledge and Skills Effective verbal and written communication. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability, statistical inference, and plane and solid geometry. Proficiency in fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions. Good mechanical aptitude, dexterity and hand/eye coordination; able to reach, bend, and lift 35 lb daily. Experience with device testing equipment such as DVMs, oscilloscopes, and general test equipment. PC or Mac user familiar with Word, Excel, Windows, and/or macOS. Willingness to be trained in other areas of production where skill level requirements may be lower. Knowledge of safety procedures and programs. Exposure to ISO 9000 and cGMP 21 CFR Part 820. Education and Experience (Additional) Extensive knowledge of PC networking environments. Strong experience with Excel, Visio, PowerPoint. Strong knowledge of ISO 9000 and cGMP 21 CFR Part 820.
