Direct Support Professional - Maintenance Specialist

Job Title: Direct Support Professional – Maintenance Specialist Reports To: Operations Director FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Status: Regular full-time benefited position. Starting Salary: $20.50/Hr Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:00 pm with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. Summary The Direct Support and Maintenance Specialist assists in the personal care of developmentally disabled program participants including providing nutrition and assisting with toileting, and carrying out janitorial tasks by performing the following duties. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Provide nutrition to program participants during mealtimes and break periods Assist male and female program participants with their toileting needs and personal care; lift female participants for personal care needs Lift, move, and transport program participants Clean and maintain ALL areas of the center Sweep, mop, wax, and polish center floors in each department Dust and polish furniture and woodwork Empty and clean waste receptacles in each department Clean restroom in each station: men’s and women’s personal care stations, and staff restrooms Maintain service supplies, (e.g. soap, paper towels, wipes, tissue, and toilet seat covers) throughout the center in each department Wash windows and walls Clean lighting equipment and replace light bulbs as needed Rearrange and move furniture and equipment as required Maintain cleaning tools, equipment, and materials in proper condition Changes can occur in essential tasks due to changes in programs, such as those mandated by law, or as a condition to further funding by a grant sponsor or changes in state or federal law. Any change in essential tasks to be performed will be by written notice and will be an essential task or requirement only after such notice has been given. Additional Job Requirements Additionally, every staff member may be required to: Load and unload buses Assist in other departments as needed Supervisory Responsibilities This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Education and/or Experience Completion of a high school degree or accepted equivalent; one year of experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Language Skills Good verbal skills are required. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as governmental regulations, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports. Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide (in all units of measure) using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to adapt quickly to varied and changing circumstances. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Note: Any lifting of program participants always requires two people. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee can expect to encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. May be exposed to outdoor elements of wind, moderate cold, and rain while assisting participants with transportation. Requirements for Employment Submit to a current physical examination and tuberculosis screening COVID-19 vaccination is required Provide a copy and maintain a current California driver’s license, submit a DMV clearance, and a copy of current insurance certificate for personnel file.
