Minimum Years of Experience

2 years of experience in Radiation Oncology nursing is required.

Certifications and Requirements

• Current RN license in good standing in Colorado
• BLS certification through the American Heart Association
• ACLS certification through the American Heart Association

Job Description

The Radiation Oncology Nurse is a registered nurse who collaborates with the Radiation Oncology Team to provide continuity and quality patient care. The primary responsibility involves assessing and implementing appropriate nursing interventions for patients experiencing issues related to their disease process, treatment, and follow-up care. This role prioritizes teaching, counseling, and supportive functions to help patients and their families cope with a cancer diagnosis and its treatment.

The RN will assist in the evaluation and examination of patients alongside the Radiation Oncologist. This position also serves as a liaison between Radiation Oncology and other medical departments, healthcare facilities, and support groups. The Radiation Oncology Nurse will assess patient needs and provide referrals for additional resources, including rehabilitation, nursing home care, hospice, and nutritional services.

Education

Must possess a current Colorado RN license in good standing.

Experience

A minimum of 2 years of experience specifically in Radiation Oncology nursing is required, not Medical Oncology.

• Ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced clinic environment
• Effective communication skills for both written and verbal interaction with multidisciplinary team members
• Capability to coordinate oncology patient care with interdisciplinary staff
• Strong organizational skills and flexibility
• Understanding of care across various age groups, human development stages, and cultural backgrounds
• Knowledge in managing chronic illnesses and comorbidities
• Current knowledge of trends, skills, procedures, and protocols in oncology and internal medicine practice
• Familiarity with evidence-based oncology, immunology, pharmacology, community health, and cultural sensitivity
