Registered Nurse

To provide nursing care for patients following established standards and practices in accordance with the Nursing Practice Act. To apply professional nursing theory and practice to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. Frequent communication with patients, families, physicians, employees, and visitors is expected. Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice is required to evaluate patient care. Understanding of organizational policies and procedures is essential for administering patient care. Awareness of common safety hazards and precautions is necessary to establish a safe work environment. Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods, and techniques of professional nursing is essential for ongoing patient care. Ability to identify problems and recommend solutions is a key skill. Capability to prepare and maintain records and write reports is essential. Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and medical staff are necessary. Ability to analyze situations and apply critical thinking is required. Clear communication skills are essential. The ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations is required. Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting of patients is expected. Intermittent lifting, moving, or carrying, pushing or pulling up to 50 lbs is necessary. Frequent use of hand dexterity is required. Constant reaching with hands and arms is necessary. Frequent talking or hearing is essential. Corrected vision and hearing to normal range is required. Exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissue is anticipated. Possible exposure to infectious materials, communicable diseases, and other conditions common to a healthcare environment is expected. Work demands may include intermittent exposure to the risk of blood-borne pathogens. Moderate noise levels in the work area are typical. The role requires working under stressful conditions, deadlines, or irregular hours. Availability for call and/or working weekends and holidays based on departmental needs is required.
