Role Description This full-time, on-site Nurse Practitioner role is based in Colonial Heights, VA and focuses on Rheumatology and Lifestyle Medicine. The Nurse Practitioner will evaluate and manage patients with rheumatologic conditions, including conducting comprehensive histories and physical exams, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, and developing individualized treatment plans. Day-to-day responsibilities include prescribing appropriate medications, coordinating lifestyle medicine interventions, providing patient counseling on disease management and prevention, and collaborating with physicians and other team members to optimize outcomes. The role involves documenting visits in the electronic health record, tracking clinical progress, and participating in quality improvement activities. The Nurse Practitioner will also support patient education initiatives, contribute to care protocols, and help maintain a safe, inclusive, and efficient clinical environment.
Qualifications

Licensure and education: Active Nurse Practitioner license in Virginia (or eligibility to obtain), national NP certification, and graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
Clinical expertise: Experience or strong interest in rheumatology, musculoskeletal medicine, chronic disease management, and lifestyle medicine approaches (nutrition, physical activity, stress management).
Patient care skills: Demonstrated ability to perform detailed assessments, develop care plans, prescribe medications, and provide clear, empathetic patient education and counseling.
Teamwork and communication: Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, and support staff in a multidisciplinary setting.
Technical and organizational skills: Comfort with electronic health records, basic office and clinical technologies, and strong time management and prioritization abilities.
Professional attributes: Commitment to evidence-based practice, continuous learning, and culturally sensitive, non-discriminatory care for individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Preferred experience: Prior work in rheumatology, internal medicine, family medicine, or related specialties, and experience in outpatient clinic settings.
