The selected candidate will be offered a salary between $63,582.00 - $68,135.00. The Administration for Children's Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services and provides subsidized childcare vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement, and programs for youth in the community. The Food and Nutrition Services Unit manages a food services budget of $5M. It is responsible for the preparation and service of food to children and youth in the care of ACS. The full-serviced kitchens serve three meals and snacks to youth housed at the Crossroads and Horizon Secure Juvenile Detention Centers and the Nicholas Scoppetta Children's Center (NSCC) congregate facility. The Food and Nutrition Unit also partners with children, youth, and care providers to address behavior issues related to food and develops/designs specialized menus to accommodate food allergies, and medical, religious, and cultural dietary restrictions. The Food and Nutrition Services Unit is also responsible for distributing meal cards to youth at the NSCC congregate facility and maintaining operations of the vending machines throughout the agency. The unit oversees the execution of light refreshment and modest meal requests for staff and youth-centered events throughout the year and ensures the requests comply with New York City Comptroller's Directive 6.

What we're looking for: Under the general supervision of the Executive Director and Director of Food and Nutrition, the dietitian will be responsible for incorporating all up-to-date recommendations of the NYC Food Standards, National Research Council, Office of Children and Family Services regulations, Food & Drug Administration (FDA), CDC, and Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH). Proper nutrition and nutritional counseling to meet the needs of the youth in our care is an important role in our commitment for good health and well-being. The dietitian will also formulate special diet menus for pregnancy, diabetes, allergies. The dietitian will also review the menus for the thirteen contracted non-secure group homes, on an as needed basis, to ensure their compliance with dietary guidelines. Key responsibilities include:

• Prepare and recommend meals for youth with special dietary needs.
• Assist Food Service Manager in reviewing and updating menus as needed for corrective remedies to ensure strict adherence to established standards.
• Maintains records and writes reports.
• Represent ACS at meetings with the Mayor's Office of Food Policy, the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, other City Agencies, State oversight, and outside stakeholders.
• Provide nutrition technical assistance throughout the Agency.
• Conduct menu analysis on menus for the youth in ACS' care, in compliance with the city, State, and Federal requirements.
• Support and ensure compliance with food and nutrition requirements at non-secure detention and contracted sites.
• Ensure provision of meals for youth with special dietary needs and work with program to provide necessary foods.
• Draft nutrition, meal, food service, and staffing contract specifications and collaborate with Planning and Business Management, ACCO, Finance, and BLU for procurements.
• Prepare annual Food Metrics Reports and other compliance reports with City Policies.
• Develop educational and training program and materials for children, youth, and staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Qualification Requirements 1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, with a major in dietetics or foods and nutrition in a program approved by the American Dietetic Association (ADA); or 2. Registration as a Registered Dietitian by the ADA.

Preferred Skills:

• Familiarity with various nutrition analysis software
• Ability to work effectively with diverse populations
• Strong communication skills for collaborating with community based organization stakeholders
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize workload
• Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards required by the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene
• Serve Safe certification or NYC Food Protection Certificate (preferred)
• Spanish language proficiency (preferred)

Residency Requirement:

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
