Saw Operator

This role is responsible for operating saw equipment and managing the complete work order process in a busy production and machine shop environment. You will set up and run saws, interpret customer specifications, accurately measure materials, and handle parts movement to and from the warehouse while maintaining safety, quality, and efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Complete the entire process of assigned work orders from start to finish, ensuring accuracy and quality at each step.
• Interpret customer color codes and specifications to determine correct materials and cutting requirements.
• Set up saws and related equipment according to job requirements, including adjusting settings and verifying proper operation.
• Operate saw equipment safely and efficiently, including bandsaws and other cutting machinery.
• Read and use tape measures and other measuring instruments accurately, including measurements down to 1/16 inch.
• Pull required parts and materials from the warehouse to prepare for production runs.
• Place finished parts back into the warehouse in the correct locations, following inventory and labeling procedures.
• Use SAP and computer systems to access work orders, record production data, and track material movement.
• Work with burn tables, CNC equipment, and other machine operation tasks as needed to support production.
• Utilize forklifts, cranes, and other lift equipment to move materials and finished parts safely.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area, following shop safety rules and proper handling of tools and equipment.
• Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production schedules and resolve issues quickly.
• Adapt to different shifts as needed, including training on a flex shift and supporting second shift operations.

Essential Skills

• Proven ability to read and use precise tape measures and measuring instruments accurately to 1/16 inch.
• Mechanical aptitude and strong ability to work with tools, machinery, and equipment.
• Hands-on manufacturing experience in a production or machine shop environment.
• Experience with saw operation and general machine operation in a manufacturing setting.
• Ability to interpret customer color codes and basic production instructions.
• Basic SAP and computer skills to navigate work orders and record production information.
• Experience operating lift equipment such as forklifts and overhead cranes.
• Ability to work on your feet for extended periods, including long shifts.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Warehouse experience is preferred, including pulling and placing parts and materials.
• Experience with bandsaws and other cutting equipment in a machine shop environment.
• Exposure to burn tables and CNC machinery is beneficial.
• Comfort working in a non-temperature-controlled environment.
• Flexibility to train on a flex shift (approximately 11:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.) and support other shifts when needed.

Work Environment

The role is based in a machine shop environment that is non-temperature controlled, requiring comfort working in varying seasonal conditions. You will spend most of your time on your feet during 1012 hour shifts, particularly on second shift (approximately 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., Monday through Friday), with primary hours on first shift (7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday) and training potentially on a flex shift around 11:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. You will work around active machinery such as saws, burn tables, CNC equipment, forklifts, and cranes, following appropriate safety procedures and wearing suitable shop attire and protective gear as required.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chattanooga, TN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $20.00/hr.
