Shift Full-time days, 40 hours per week Work Arrangement On-Site Department Surgical Specialties Facility University Hospital - 1 Hospital Drive, Columbia, MO Compensation Base Pay Range: $91,499.20 - $133,827.20 per year, based on experience ABOUT THE JOB The Clinical Educator supports excellence in patient care by providing education, training, mentorship, and leadership to nursing staff within the Surgical Specialties unit. In partnership with the Clinical Nurse Manager, this role helps oversee daily unit operations while promoting evidence-based practice, regulatory compliance, and high-quality patient outcomes. Responsibilities include coordinating orientation for new team members, developing ongoing educational programs, facilitating skills training, and supporting competency development for nurses caring for complex surgical and trauma patients. The Clinical Educator serves as a clinical resource and coach, providing guidance, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities to enhance staff engagement and growth. This position also participates in quality improvement initiatives, evaluates clinical practices to identify opportunities for improvement, and helps implement protocols that promote patient safety and satisfaction. DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION Develop and implement educational programs and initiatives to enhance the knowledge, skills, and competencies of inpatient nursing staff. Coordinate and conduct orientation programs for new nursing staff, ensuring a thorough understanding of policies, procedures, and best practices. Provide ongoing education and training on new clinical practices, technologies, and evidence-based guidelines to improve patient care outcomes. Facilitate skills labs, workshops, and in-service training sessions to address identified learning needs and promote professional development. Assist the Clinical Nurse Manager in overseeing daily operations of the nursing unit, ensuring adherence to standards of care, policies, and regulatory requirements. Provide guidance, support, and supervision to nursing staff, including performance feedback, coaching, and counseling as needed. Collaborate with the Clinical Nurse Manager and support staff to address staffing needs, scheduling conflicts, and workload distribution to maintain optimal staffing levels and workflow efficiency. Participate in performance evaluations and contribute to the identification of staff development opportunities and training needs. Monitor and evaluate clinical practices and patient care activities to identify areas for improvement and ensure compliance with regulatory standards and organizational policies. Participate in quality improvement initiatives, committees, and task forces to drive continuous improvement in patient care outcomes and nursing practices. Assist in the development and implementation of evidence-based protocols, guidelines, and quality measures to enhance patient safety and satisfaction. Foster effective communication and collaboration among interdisciplinary team members to promote a culture of teamwork, respect, and professionalism. Serve as a liaison between nursing staff, management, and other departments to facilitate the exchange of information, resolve issues, and coordinate patient care activities. Act as a resource and advocate for nursing staff, addressing concerns, promoting positive morale, and fostering a supportive work environment. Collaborate with Centralized Timekeeping and Scheduling to ensure accurate staff scheduling and alignment with operational needs. Utilize UKG WFM to monitor employee attendance via the attendance tab, verify attendance-related occurrences requiring disciplinary action, and review departmental staffing reports to assess efficiency, policy adherence, and appropriate meal break usage. Review and approve late timecards and schedule edit requests submitted through AskHR. Address patterns of late submissions that may require corrective action. May complete unit/department-specific duties as outlined in department documents. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Missouri Board of Nursing RN or Nurse Licensure Compact multi-state RN. When primary state of residency changes, compact state RNs must apply under new state of residency within thirty (30) days. Two (2) years of acute or urgent care RN nursing experience. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience in nursing education, staff development, or clinical supervision. Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met with or without reasonable accommodation. The performance of these physical demands is an essential function of the job. This position is very active and requires ambulating, reaching, and moving objects weighing up to and over 20 lbs. This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. This position is in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required.
